I'm pretty new to this forum and the software, so forgive me if I'm asking something already asked, or something impossible. I'm a bit of a statistics freak and just recently went from my excel database to the DVD profiler. Some things I'm really missing are;

- Average rating (+count) per Director [and a top, say, 20 of directors with a count of >3 ratings]
- Average rating (+count) per Genre
- Number of DVDs viewed / week
- Overview of DVDs viewed this month

I might be alone in wanting these functions, but with all the data in the DVD profiler it shouldn't be too hard to make, I think  At the moment I still need a double database so I can do these statistics. I was just wondering if other would like the same features.

[An Export to Excel function would also work ofcourse ]

Hmmmm, o.k., but only this once...

Welcome.

I almost wonder how you did those average in Excel...

For watched statistics an external "program" called phpdvdprofiler (phpdvdprofiler uses the XML file Export of DVD profiler to set up its database...) would probably do what you want. You can look at the capabilities by clicking on my signature image and then selecting "Watched Statistics" from the menu on the left. Within DVD Profiler the watched events are not really displayed nicely in any way (only a siple list).

For an export to Excel you may want to check out the Plugin area, where you wil find the Export to CSV plugin.

I did the averages with a Pivot Table. This is really the easiest way to do it. To make a top 20 with a minimum count was a bit more work.

I don't know how good you are with excel, but when you have the pivot table you can do a COUNTIF on the director name. This way you can create a new database with only directors who have more than 'x' ratings. From this new database you can create a new Pivot Table, set it to average rating and top 20 (these are all standard controls for Pivot Tables).

If you need any help, let me know

Thanks for the phpdvdprofiler idea...looks nice enough

Thanks for the offer to help me with the tables, but I never could wrap my brain around the idea behind pivot tables I tried once or twice, but not really knowing when I should even use them or for what doesn't help either

COUNTIF I know. I use Excel quite a bit at work, so I think I can at least say I got the basics down. Maybe I should play with certain things more when in need for a statistic. For now those few that phpdvdprofiler provides me are sufficient to me.

If you want to find out more: The phpdvdprofiler forum.
You will need a web host offering PHP and MySQL. If you only need it for yourself, you can also run it locally with an Apache server and the related tools.
