On the other hand, this might alter our perspective about our own "bad" days.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

I went under the knife once and can recall the details.  My spleen had ruptured and they had to operate quickly lest I bleed to death internally.  If I hadn't already been at the hospital when it ruptured, I wouldn't be enjoying DVD's today.

They waited only the minimal amount of time for the anesthesia to take effect before cutting - wasn't quite long enough.  The knife brought me back to awareness and I tried to let the doctors know that I was still awake, that I could feel it.

But then it hit me - I couldn't move.  My next thought was "Well S**T.  May as well lay back and enjoy the ride."  About a few minutes later after feeling them cut through layer after layer, I was out completely.

Despite my luck, I try to remain an optimist.

So, every day is disappointing. Some worse than others.

Red lights stop me at every corner (I average eight out of ten stoplights I encounter are yellow or red). As I await the green light, a homeless person will wait until the light changes (to green for me) to amble across the street in front of me, keeping me from using the green... giving me another red to wait through.

In everything else in life, I am a prime example of Murphy's Law with feet. I gather stains only on my favorite shirts. As my team's game is to start, they switch referees on our field to the one who couldn't recognize offsides if it bit him/her. If I find a product at Costco that I like, they'll never carry it again. I was knocked unconcious/given a mild concussion by my 16-year-old daughter while she was trying to make a point about how responsible she is.

I cannot recall too many good days in my entire life.

But reading the article, I've never had that bad a day.

If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Yup. And optimists are always disappointed. Pessimists are rarely disappointed.

Reminds me of a Stephen King short story, where a guy was awake but paralyzed during his autopsy after being bitten by a snake.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

I consider myself to be an optimistic pessimist.  I hope things will go well, but deep down I know they won't

I believe that we are referred to as pragmatists. Definition of a pragmatist is someone who is sure it will go wrong.  i.e. an optimistic pessimist.
