| | Posted: | | | | I believe the covers directories are stored with your database on the removable drive, so they won't be a problem. But Profiler will create folders for layouts and reports on the local PC regardless, and recreates them if you delete them I believe. So I don't think there's any way of avoiding any kind of foot print unfortunately. |

Just having the empty folders in my docs wouldnt be a problem. I could simply make them hidden after all, it would only be a problem if they were a few hundred megs in size. |

| | Posted: | | | | As far as I can tell, all the images are stored in a folder inside the folder containing your database. So wherever you decide to store your database, that's where the images will be.
So if you move your database out of My Documents, all that should be left are the default folders which should be pretty small in size. |

Not sure if it was here at Invelos or at IVS I think that was in the IVS tech support area around the time v3 was released... but I can't seem to find it. There was a thread regarding setting up virtual directories for windows (equivalent to UNIX symbolic links) using another application. ? (this should probably be in the tech-sup area <shrug> ) Profiler v3 stores it's data in four different locations, so if the OP is having to deal with particularly strict policies regarding not installing personal software on work systems, it might be best to not use Profiler there at all if there's a real risk of job termination as result. Unless Ken creates something like a PortableApps version, setting up all the required elements for a proper stealth install can be quite tricky as two & 1/2 of the four locations appear to be hard-coded. If the main concern is only disk usage, then moving just the database/images, as northbloke and others speak of, should achieve that - and support is already built-in (leaving ~50MB remaining in the various other folders.) (shown here as a default install) 1. the application binaries: C:\Program Files\DVD Profiler 2. the user's data: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\DVD Profiler 3. the application database: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DVD Profiler 4. the registry entries: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Invelos Software AFAIK only #1 and part of #2 (the databases w/images, but not the reports or layouts) can be moved to an alternate location w/o additional tools for mapping virtual folders. Hopefully someone more clever than I may already have figured a simple(er) means of a fully external installation....? |
