Best Buy online + pickup = notable bargains |

| | Posted: | | | | Best Buy lets you order online and then pick up the item at a store which has it (they check the inventories of stores in the vicinity of your zipcode). So you can get pretty much instant gratification. The really neat thing is that their online prices can be much lower than in-store. The HBO period fantasy Carnivale, for instance, regularly goes for $50+ for each of the two seasons. Online, each season costs $20. Same thing for the prison drama Oz. I was also able to find the first season of La Femme Nikita for $15 -- this was advertised, but the local store was out of that season (and had to search for seasons 2-4 -- only 5 was on the shelf). Anyhow, what I'm saying is that you should check out this neat service. It does require you reserve the item with your credit card number, though I don't believe it's actually charged until you pick up the item, and you get a week or so to do so.
In addition, if you get a response that the store has the item, and show up at the customer service desk with this response, you get $10 off if they can't get the item into your hands within one, count 'em one, minute. Thus I got my La Femme Nikita Season 1 for $5. |

I should mention that I've used the service twice. For La Femme Nikita s1 (Tenleytown Washington DC) I got the $10 reduction. For the two sets of Carnivale (Laurel MD) I never got a "We have it" notice, but did get a "We're working on it" email and came to the store with that and found the sets on the shelves. The guy at the counter claimed that they didn't reply because they didn't have the sets, even though the inventory obviously showed that they did and I did, in fact, find several copies on the shelves. ("Gee, I guess the truck must have brought them in this morning." Yeah, right.) Anyhow, I did get these for the online price, total $40 for both seasons. |

I would imagine it means that when you order it, it shouldn't show in stock until an employee grabs it off the shelf/back, sticks a note on it with your name, and puts it under the counter at CS. If they don't do that, it's just bad as somethings show as instore but may be missing/stolen. Or better is in stock, but someone buys the only copy while you're driving to the store to pick it up. As for the 1 minute thing I have NEVER heard of it and it would be insane to do something like that. It would take you more than one minute to get through the CS line on most occasions. When things are ordered and held they are not as CS they are stored in an area in inventory and marked with the customers name. If you get a rain check item you are called the day it comes in and told to go to CS to retrieve the purchase. At that point a person goes to the area or calls the area to have it brought up. Best Buy also has the ability to buy on line and pick up at the store at checkout. If you have seen or used this 1 minute policy I suggest you put your money where your mouth is and post a link to it or scan the paper you have that says this. |
