Hi there,

I'd like to start (hopefully, I didn't find an existing thread) a list of movie sound tracks you liked so much, that you bought the audio.

I'll start with my current favourites that I bought:
  • O Brother, where art though?

  • Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof

  • Blue Man Group - The Complex Rock Tour Live (Not actually available as audio, but I like is so much that I copied the audio to my iPod  )

  • Please post your favourites...

    I love soundtracks!
Composer-wise I suppose you could say Howard Shore, Danny Elfman and Ennio Morricone were my favourites.
As for specific scores, I'd say: The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover, Bubba Ho-Tep, Cyrano de Bergerac (the Gerard Depardieu one) and Ravenous.
But I could easily make both much longer lists, and if I'd written this tomorrow I'd probably pick completely different ones!

I'm also a big fan of soundtracks. I will probably forget many of my favourites, but here's some of them on top of my head:

    - Yann Tiersen: Amelie & Goodbye Lenin
    - Nicola Piovani: Life is Beautiful
    - Zbigniew Preisner: The Double Life of Veronique
    - Clint Mansell: The Fountain
    - Jean-Claude Petit: Cyrano de Bergerac
    - John Williams: Schindler's List & Saving Private Ryan
    - Rachel Portman: Chocolat
    - Randy Edelman: Gettysburg
    - Philip Glass: The Illusionist
    - John Corigliano: The Red Violin
    - Vangelis: 1492 Conquest of Paradise
    - Javier Navarrete: Pan's Labyrinth

+ most of Bernard Herrmann and Ennio Morricone... too many to list.

And while not a soundtrack recording for one movie as such:
Carl Davis: The Silents (excellent music composed specifically for some silent movie classics)
    Mika
I hate people who love me, and they hate me. (Bender Bending Rodriguez)

It's pretty rare I'm into entire movie soundtracks.  Usually there might be a song or two that I like, but here's some of the complete soundtracks that are amazing.

    Composers:
    ----------------------------------------
    Tyler Bates - 300
Clint Mansell - Requiem for a Dream
    Roger Waters - The Wall
John Williams - Any movie he has ever worked on
    Alan Silvestri - The Abyss
Brad Fiedel - The Terminator (Come on, you telling you don't recognize that song within hearing 2 notes of it?)

Compiled Soundtracks (don't really know who to credit but the director):
    ----------------------------------------
Quentin Tarantino - Say what you will about his movies, but the soundtracks are always awesome.  Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are major stand outs.
Robert Rodriguez - In the same mold as above, Desperado had a fantastic soundtrack.
Stanley Kubick - Full Metal Jacket - Just a compilation of 60's and 70's songs, but he used them extremely effectively.
John Hughes (1980-1990) - Any movie he worked on in that date range has a great soundtrack.

I'll even go a step further for the gamer's out there (and provide links to the non-gamers so you can get a taste)
    ---------------------------------------------
Unknown composers - Interstate '76 (link contains a video of the games intro to give you a taste)
Jeehun Hwang - MechWarrior 2 - I actually used to take the game CD in my car and listen to the soundtrack.
Clint Bajakian - Outlaws - Another one I used to take the game CD and listen to in my car on my way to school.  You can listen to all the songs at the link.  If you're into the Eastwood spaghetti westerns you will enjoy every single one of them.
Gary Schyman - Bioshock - This soundtrack rivals almost any movie soundtrack I've ever heard.  Being a recently release game this one is in my current playlist.  It's haunting and filled with emotion and I can't stop listening to it.  The link is a download of the entire soundtrack provided by the game publisher.  Trust me, give it a listen.

I own The Complete Recording for Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring and Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (Howard Shore).  The third and final Complete Recordings comes out this month as well, hope to get it for Christmas.

I love the soundtrack to Close Encounters of the Third Kind (John Williams) and I actually love just about everything John Williams has composed!!!

This might be slightly off-topic but I think the best use of soundtrack music ever has got to be the showdown at the end of "For A Few Dollars More" with the simple musical pocket watches suddenly developing into this great orchestral piece. Morricone at his best I think.

Gladiator (Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard)
    Blade Runner (Vangelis)
    Dracula (Wojciech Kilar)

There are too many other favourites from the the composers already mentioned.
    John Williams
    Alan Silvestri
    Gerry Goldsmith
    James Horner
    Danny Elfman
    Ennio Morricone.

Oh and Vega I also liked the MechWarrior 2 soundtrack that much

Marvellous, but I prefer his work on Once Upon A Time in the West and Ecstasy of Gold is magnificent (Tuco running around the graveyard in The Good The Bad and The Ugly).

Yeah, the Bioshock score is really good. It's a shame there wasn't more music included in the CD that came with the Limited Edition packaging that came with the game. I love the music in Grimm Fandango and both Jet Set Radio games too.

My favourites (basically the ones I have on CD):

    Clerks
    Lost In Translation
    Pulp Fiction
    Jackie Brown
    Blade Runner (Vangelis)
    Donnie Darko (Michael Andrews)
    The Virgin Suicides (Air)
Assault On Precinct 13 (John Carpenter)
    Bullit (Lalo Schifrin)
Unleased aka Danny The Dog (Massive Attack)
Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
    The Big Lebowski
    City Of God
    Dead Man's Shoes
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
    Garden State
    High Fidelity
    Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2
    Trainspotting
    Lost Highway
    Scratch
