I know this is petty but,

I just received these two titles from Columbia House minus slipcovers and I seen on DVD-P that they indeed do have slipcovers. so my question is, are the slipcovers your standard slipcover that have the same art as the cover itself or is it different art (i.e. the recent Kubrick SE's )

300 is identical except for embossing of helmet, logo, and spear tip.
The back is also identical except for some color over the UPC box, so you're missing nothing artwise there.

Not sure about Knocked Up as I don't own it. I think it was the same when I looked at it instore a couple weeks ago, but that was then and I'm not positive. I have made mental notes about what disc have slipcovers worth a damn, i.e. different art, but this one slipped through. I'm guessing it's the same or super-close as I haven't felt the urge to try and get it yet, which I do with other slipcovers that offer something I'd want to have later.

Also, you should see the slipcover in your local.

Hey thanks for the reply bigdaddy,

Yeah it no problem for me to check the local stores it just may be a bit for a get a chance to. It is no big deal to me as well if the art is the same

btw, do you notice the different art for the Kubrick SE's'? I got the Box set (different art than individual titles, no slipcovers) but I do much prefer the art to the individual ones but alas I saved a few pennies by getting the set.

I was a member of Columbia House for a long long time and it's pretty rare to ever get slipcocovers from them.  I have a feeling it has to do with the "discount" they give you when you purchase one DVD for their insanely overpriced "regular price".

I was with them for 10 years (from back when I was in college) and I completed their initial "buy 5 DVDs over the next 2 years" at their "regular price" and I stayed with them buying movies during that entire time.  If you keep up with their stupid once a month "Director's Choice" and remember to refuse the movie every month then you can get some really good deals.  If you forget, well now you're the proud owner of a DVD you could have bought from Target for $15 with a slipcover which they charge you close to $30 and make it seem like they're doing you a favor by sending it to you automatically.  Sure, you can return it but they make you jump through hoops and several times they claimed they never got my returns.  But I will admit you can get some really deals, especially if you buy 10-15 DVDs at once.  If you only buy 1 or 2 at a time then they are robbing you.  Buy a whole bunch and you're good, but don't expect any nice "Collector" type of releases and don't expect slipcovers.

After being a member for so long I finally sent them an email and asked them if I could change my account to permanently opt out of their monthly Director's Selection so I could enjoy using their service more otherwise they could just cancel my account.  They chose to cancel my account.  I think that should tell you what they think about their customers.

Sorry, this turned into a Columbia House rant, but really their whole business model is a scam.  I've been using Amazon since ditching them and I feel I'm getting much better deals and they actually care about their customers.

By local I meant your local database actually. If you've entered the UPC codes you should be seeing a picture of the slip, or the normal cover "if reflective but identical to the slipcover". Unless CH has different UPC's now, they didn't used to.

I think the Kubrick slips were slightly different (different background colors on front maybe?) but got pissed when I found you had to buy the box for Full Metal Jacket and I decided not to get any of them until I find the box used or FMJ comes on it's own. Uncut or not, I'm not watching more than the first 3 minutes of Eyes Wide Shut ever again and certainly don't want to own it! I'm sure by then the slips will be gone but can live with it. Haven't seen the covers inside the box, are they different than the normal keepcase covers? I would've thought they'd be the same, just no slips.

I had a CH account way back when they were a great deal and easy to deal with. I had it set to not get the director's selection ever, but then I renewed and they had changed the rules so I couldn't do that anymore. That is why I finished my commitment and dropped em instantly after, esp. when I called them to say I'd stay a member if I didn't have to worry about the DS each month. They sympathized but said they couldn't set it to auto-decline like in the past.

Dang it, I was at Best Buy today making mental notes to myself about slipcovers but forgot to look for Knocked Up SE.
As for the Kubrick SE's, the slip is identical to the keepcase cover except for directly over the UPC, where it's boxed in with color on top (like every slipcover).
Eyes Wide Shut also had a sticker on back of the slipcover, over the rating box, that said "unrated version only". The artwork and the keepcase cover both say it has both versions.
I guess you'd probably not want to bother with the edited version, but which is right? Does the disc have R and unrated options or just unrated?
