The original "X-gamer" and he didn't even know it.

As a kid I enjoyed the Wide World of Sports specials where he did many of his jumps. Of course we recreated them with out bikes and a pile of dirt afterward

I just don't understand why this community always seems to have someone crackin wise in an obituary type thread. Make your jokes somewhere else.

I saw this last night on the BBC news page.  Their write-up made him seem a bit rubbish, which of course is not the case.  Boo the the Beeb for being crap.

The BBC's two penneth.
They sought it with thimbles, they sought it with care,
They pursued it with forks and hope.
They threatened it's life with a railway share,
They charmed it with smiles and soap

I had an Evel Knievel figure and rocket modeled after what he used for the Snake River Canyon attempt. I remember hearing on the radio that he didn't make it across that day.

Rick, we did stuff with our bikes in his honor as well.

RIP Evel.

Grendell:

WRONG. The troll was Rick. At least acuse the correct person for a CHANGE.

Hearing it on the radio?, James. I watched it on ABC Wide of World of Sports with the inimitable Howard Cossell.

Sad to hear. Man, am I getting old. Another passing of someone I admired in my youth. Had many a bike jumps and crashes trying to emulate the man. RIP

I'll always remember him doing jumps (and usually getting hurt bad) when I was a kid.
What really sticks is the interviews I've heard/read since the glory days.
R.I.P. to one of the coolest unfriendly personers on the planet, for real!

He'll be missed.  Like most of you, I always loved watching him on the Wide World of Sports.  I've seen his son Robbie perform a few times, but it's just not the same.
