Hi all -- I have no idea if I'm alone in this, but when I log into this site, the first forum I check is the Announcement forum to see if there's anything important that I need to know -- in most cases this information is provided in the initial post.  I honestly don't see a reason to elevate the importance of ensuing remarks to that of the original announcement by converting the announcement to an actual discussion thread -- IMO, any commentary that an announcement might result in would be better suited to its own thread.  In this way, after reading an announcement, if interested, one could then browse the subsequent thread titles if further clarification of the announcement by others is of interest.  In order to do this, the person making the announcement would have to lock the thread after posting.  I won't lose sleep over this, one way or the other, but I do frequent an eclectic group of forums, some of which might exhibit similar behavior, but this is the only forum that I notice it.

What several people do is to take note of how many topics are in the forum and only bother reading it if it goes up.

I didn't think of looking at Feature Requests for such a thread.  Thank you, MarEll.

Another approach I've seen mentioned is to bookmark searches for posts made by Ken and/or Gerri, and then visit the site via those bookmarks. That way you'll see if they've made new posts in the announcement forum whenever you visit the site.

I don't do this myself so I don't know how well it works.
