A teacher friend of mine asked me the following:

I am looking for fun movies to use in classroom situations.  The subjects that I am looking for suggestions for are computers, math or science.  Can you think of any?

And to be honest, I can't really think of any suitable movies in those genres.

Can any of you?

Thanks.

kind of depends exactly what you are looking for? does your friend want purely educational? or do they want movies that encorporate use of math, science, or computers that can be used to start discussion on said topics?

Also, what age group are we talking about because that has a big affect on the available pool of movies.

for the former, your best bet would probably be discovery channel stuff.

for the later, lots of science fiction movies can be used to start discussions. For instance in college, for my class about AI in movies, we watched AI (big suprise there) memento and i can't think of the others right now. but Gattaca could be an option as well

I am not entirely sure what kind of movies you are looking for.

Fun movies related to school are:

Breakfast Club
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Wargames
Hackers
Karsten

For the subject
computers: How about "Wargames"
for math: "A Beautiful Mind" or "Good Will Hunting"
for science: possibly "Chain Reaction
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

When I was in HS, my computer teacher played the movie Electric Dreams.  Pitty it's only on VHS.

Actually there are some websites on the math being used in this series, e.g. this one
and this one.
There's even a book, so this series might be suitable for educational purposes, although it might be a bit over the heads of seniors in high school.
