How about 'brilliantly mad'?
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

It's somewhere in between. Pretty cool idea IMO, although I have no idea what I'd use as the sacrifice.

It would be brilliant if the books were arranged upright side by side

It would be cheaper to go to a used bookstore.

Local second hand stores (Anvets comes to mind) sells hardcover books for $0.99. Quite often they put them on sale for 3 for $1.

The way they built that shelf doesn't make  much sense to me. Why not have the L Bracket screw up into the pages from the bottom side rather than down into them from the top? I would think having most of your book's weight on top of the bracket would make more sense. But other than that complaint, it's a pretty cool idea.

This would be better, but then it wouldn't be invisable now would it?

It woud be invisible, Just like they put the L bracket between the cover and the pages when it's at the top of the book, you would do the same thing when it's at the bottom.

But the other part of the L would be visable underneath it, just like it is on top in the way demo'd. But you can't stack books under it to cover the other part.

Now if you had it behind a chair or speaker or something, then it would work and still be hidden. Out in the open, it would look nasty with the exposed half of the bracket underneath the shelf.

Can't seem to get the video working.
Is it something like this?

It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Yes, except the bracket is attached to the book.

This is what I am thinking. The L-Bracket is in the same direction, but IMO a more stable mounting.
