| | Posted: | | | | (04-20) 15:47 PDT LOS ANGELES, (AP) -- Viacom and five Hollywood studios are joining forces to create a television channel and video-on-demand service.
In a statement released Sunday, the companies say the new venture, starting in the fall of 2009, will combine movies and television series from Paramount, Paramount Vantage, MGM, United Artists and Lionsgate.
It will also have access during the pay-per-view television window to recent movie releases from the studios, including "Iron Man,""Star Trek," and "Love Guru." Movies from the studios' archive libraries and new TV series created by the studios also will be featured.

| | Posted: | | | | The LA Times has more detail here... including: "The as-yet-unnamed venture, scheduled to launch in September 2009, will take advantage of the fact that the studios all will be contractually free of obligations to other networks or premium-TV distributors, according to Philippe P. Dauman, chairman of Paramount's parent company, Viacom Inc. "Dauman, in an interview today, called the opportunity "unique" because the output of other major studios is contractually tied up for years to come. The venture will include the work of five studios: Paramount and its Paramount Vantage affiliate, MGM and its United Artists affiliate and Lionsgate." and "The new venture will have access to Paramount and Paramount Vantage titles released theatrically on or after Jan. 1, 2008, and MGM, United Artists and Lionsgate titles released theatrically on or after Jan. 1, 2009.
