Seoul (South Korea) - Samsung has announced that it plans to bring the next generation of Blu-ray players to market this summer, bringing its first slate of devices that will support the new Blu-ray Disc Profile.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Owning a 2nd gen Samsung, my best advice is to stay away from them. Although the components are supposedly good, the firmware downright sucks. Samsung cannot get their act together and they are not interested in keeping good relations to their customers. For instance, the DB-P1200 is incapable of playing DVDs satisfactory (jitters, sync issues, crashes) although it has a world-class scaler to scale the dvd-image to HD. Also there are numerous playback issues with blu-ray discs.

Just my 2 cents, and for more of the same, check out www.avsforum.com

I bought the Samsung BD-UP5000 and returned if after less than 24 hours. I was horrified to discover that what they mean on the box by DD TrueHD compatible, is that it will decode TrueHD 5.1 tracks to 2 channel stereo. The same for DTS HD.  I called Samsung immediately and they told me that this was a limitation inherent to the unit and that there would be no firmware update ever to allow 5.1/7.1 sourround from lossless audio tracks. They were a little rude about it too. I took home the LG BH200 instead and I could not be happier. After the latest firmware update, this unit can decode anything into uncompressed multi-channel surround. Samsung has lost any street cred they had with me.
