It's even worse in germany. The english genitive apostrophe has been invading our country for a long time.

In german it's "Karstens Haus" (Karsten's house), not "Karsten's Haus" yet the people began to put apostrophes everywhere, our language is beginning to look like Goa'uld.

Exactly the same thing in Danish, Karsten... Only diference is: If the name actually ends in s, we do use the apostrophe - and then not the s! As in, if the house belongs to Anders, it would be "Anders' house." How hard can it be? Very, apparantly...

I am guilty as charged...

Had someone asked me today, I would not have known that we actually don't have that apostrophe...

Even worse, they use the apostrophe for the plural as well. The plural of DVD is DVDs and not DVD's.

It already invaded mine and I can't see what so bad about it. The more the grammar of languages look alike the easier it is to learn them.

Yes, that's our rule as well (for every name where an appended s makes no sense)

Karstens Haus
Stefans Haus

but

Markus' Haus
Max' Haus

The only time it is allowed, is when it could lead to confusion. For example when Andrea has a house than it can be written as "Andrea's Haus" because "Andreas Haus" could lead to the assumption that it is the house of a guy called Andreas.

Karsten I feel your pain. It doesn't cause such problems here, but we run into the same type of problems when trying to use Metrics, Liters instead of Gallons, etc.

Then wouldn't that be Andreas' Haus? Subtle, but no confusion...

Technically ... yes. But since the Apostrophitis is spreading like a disease it has become more difficult.
