Ok I wanna finally buy this dvd pack (don't worry, I've already seen the movies several times) but I don't know which one to buy.
I'm hearing conflicting posts, comments about the versions, quality of picture and sound on both and mainly the 6 dvd pack.

Are those people correct or am I worrying about nothing?
Anyone have 1 or both of these and can comment on this or knows more about this?

There is one thing that you can count on relative to Star Wars. As long as George lives, they will NEVER be finished and maybe not even after he is gone. So far, each and every release of Star Wars has been different from the previous incarnation, this goes back over 20 years. The next iteration, which was originally to be finished last year is Star wars 3D, all 6 films. All Star Wars fans have resigned themselves to the fact that they will be buying Star Wars movies FOREVER, I still have my ORIGINAL laserdisc releases from the 1980s, which were state iof the art at the time and were <gasp> horrors...pan & scam.

The 3 movie discs in the 4-disc set are replicated in the 6-disc set. The fourth disc in the 4-disc set contains bonus materials for all three movies, including a fantastic documentary, while the 3 remaining discs in the 6-disc set contain the original versions of the trilogy in the last remastering they had before Lucas started messing with them for the 1997 special editions. However, they are non-anamorphic, and all the bonus materials from the other set's disc 4 are missing.

Anyway, if extras are important, get the 4-disc set. If the original editions are more important, get the 6-disc set. You're going to be getting the latest incarnations of the movies in both sets, for better or worse.

Sad as I am, I wanted the extras and the original versions so I have both on the shelf

Impressive, but it's not a true ascii animation in the original definition.  Instead of drawing the picture character by character and changing things by positioning the cursor and redrawing it, it's just a series of text frames, kind of like a movie reel.

Buy the ones with the original versions, then head over to Hollywood video and pick up the bonus disc from the other set for the extras. They should still have them, last time I was in the store they had about 10 of em, but that was a few weeks ago. Blockbuster may have some too, but I never go there.
If Hollywood/BB fails ya, check any used shops in your hood, if they don't have one, they're probably cheap on ebay.
If all this comes up empty, check it out from the library and dub it   (or wait for the next release). Lucas has enough money, no need to buy a second box for one disc you should be able find solo. I see them all the time in many places.

I only have all version made on DVD and some hack from the old Laserdisk version.

So I change my las comment from:  "You have to get them all" to  "You have to get them all,  again and again and again"

I purchased the first release and the last release that has the real versions. I kept myself from getting the second release even though I was tempted due to the (imho) nicer artwork but since it was the same exact set just minus the bonus disc I refrained.

I bet you that when and if Lucas releases these are BD that he will have all new special effects, which will be different than the 2004 DVD release.
