My 'so called'  buddy loves AOL  and wouldn't go any where without this on his laptop.
For years and years all of his AOL email to me means an attachment within an attachment within sometime one more attachment.. ( or folders)..    so If he sends me a joke or a jpg picture I'm like a kid on Xmas morning opening these folders to get to the other etc..,  .
Well,, surprise surprise-- this past week all his AOL emails to me, there is no attachments. Just the bulk of the TEXT OR PICTURE  sitting right there on page one of the inbox email ..,
So I ask him (long distance last week), "what's up" ., and he says "nothing same  AOL, same email address., "  Until he also says "Oh, and I Picked up a new laptop with Vista ( instead of XP ).,.,  and I says  "Really,, well Vista must like something about AOL, as there is no more attachments with your emails ,, and he says ' I'm crazy and there is no difference at all..'' , I say .. "No way  something is up  here and I intent to find out.."  ( I hate to be called crazy.... )

Anyone familiar with what I'm saying? .. I believe he never had his co-oridinents set up improperly and now Vista did them correctly automatically ....    ??

Is he using AOL Desktop 10.0 perhaps? That just came out recently, and isn't radically different from 9.1 which you can still use.

I don't think this is isolated to AOL. With MS Outlook anytime an email is forwarded, especially with jokes, the attachments are always in folders. Depending on how many times the original email was forwarded I'd have to wade through up to 5 or 6 folders, sometimes more, just to get to the actual joke .

I practically forward and deploy eMail jokes on a daily basis with Outlook 2003 and there have never been any kind of folders.

I'm sorry, my bad...it's not really a folder. It's actually a small yellow envelope. When you double-click on it, it will open another attachment and so on until you reach the original sender's email.

OK, I understand. Someone attaches another mail to a new one.

I'd never do that, especially with jokes. They are forwarded so often that it's not unlikely that at some point a huge list of valid email addresses has been built. If the wrong person gets that email, SPAM is your answer.

Every joke mail I send is cleaned up and only contains the joke itself. All receipients of that mail (ususally 30-40 people) go into the BCC, instead of the TO. This way, if they simply forward it, they won't forward all the valid email addresses.

Well I know for sure he uses AOL  and not Outlook  or Outlook Express,,..,,  But I use Outlook and even when I forward an email,, it takes the page of text in question and pastes it onto afresh page 1..,  no folders or envelopes..I then take extra measures and make sure recipients are Bcc..  ..
