| | Posted: | | | | I agree with you, north. If the restoration detracts from the ORIGINAL film then it becomes something other than a restoration. I even have my doubts sometimes over the single best restoration job to date, GWTW. They found that the original techinicolor prints were misaligned bu 5 pixels, and correcting that revelaed a new level detail never before seen in the film, they also were able to recover substantial sonic information which equipment at the time was unable to pick up and reproduce at the time, like rustling crinolines. So in some respects the GWTW of today is NOT the GWTW as presented in 1939.  But the wires in WOO I agree they should not have removed them because today's technology allows it. Most prominent Example is "Star Wars - Episode 4". They were washing the original prints and did a nice reconstruction. And then they went too far and began changing the movie.

| | Posted: | | | | Actually, Stephan I had less trouble with Star Wars since George was the involved and it is his baby after all. What I objected to was his public comments that the ORIGINAL film had been destroyed, not that I believed him for a second. The 1978 is a part of film history, just as is GWTW and WOO, and as such deserves the same degree of respect and restoration. Hopefully one day George will bring the Original back to its FULL glory, I don't diminish what he did and wanted to achieve with the SE's, but keep and restore the Original as well.
