| | Posted: | | | | I watched 'Stargate: Continuum' last night and I really enjoyed the film...a lot more than 'Ark of Truth'. It had a good story and just the right amount of action. It is what a 'franchise film' should be. I did, however, after sleeping on it, come up with a few small problems... Spoiler: (Select to view)...which all have to do with Time Travel plot holes.
First, why didn't the rest of SG-1 'disappear? Jack disappeared because there was never a Stargate Program. Teal'c disappeared because Jack was never captured allowing him to convince Teal'c to help them. Shouldn't the same thing have happened to Sam and Daniel?
Second, why didn't Mitchell disappear? They say he was a living grandfather paradox, but he wasn't because he didn't kill his grandfather. His grandfather died before he returned to Earth.
Third, why did Baal invade Earth? Did he really enjoy living there so much that, after taking control of the entire Goa'uld empire, he felt he had to go back?
And finally, where did Mitchell gate to in 1929? I am guessing Baal chose 1939 because he knew the gate would be on a ship without any security, but where was it in 1929? If it was that important, wouldn't it have been in a secure facility somewhere? | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.

The time line was in the mist of being altering instead of a one-time shift. That's how they knew something was up instead of simply merging with the new timeline.
Also, they said that because they were in transit via the wormhole, it somehow protected them from the alternate time line taking over. (answer to your Grandfather paradox)
Baal invaded Earth as a last measure of getting back at us, even though the events that ultimately lead to his downfall never happened in that time line.
As for 1929, there was more than one gate on Earth, three I believe. The one buried in Egypt, the one buried in Antarctica, and a 3rd that the Russians found. I don't think they revealed in what state that 3rd gate was found but if it wasn't buried, he would have gated to it.

I guess it could be a progressive thing which would allow the events to happen the way they did. She thought it was because they were inside an active wormholle when it was happening. Spoiler: (Select to view)I'm guessing Baal chose to invade earth because he knew were we still a threat. Not sure on that one though. It just could have been revenge. Spoiler: (Select to view)Mitchel went to 1929 cause that was the closest time Sam could get without waiting longer. They had to wait for the solar flare of certain stars to errupt, each one sending them back to a different time. The 1929 date occured during the firefight when they were about to get overrun. It was a choice of going back to 10 years too earlly or not going back at all. Mitchell had to sit and wait in 1929 for ten years to get to the right time (1939).
I personally thought they did a good job with the time travel. I agree it was a really good movie. I liked the fact that they brought back many characters from the show. I just wish there was more Walter  The guy's been counting down his chevrons for over 12 years now. Time they give him a promotion.  |

| | Posted: | | | | It's been 10 years since I separated from the AF but at that time, the highest enlisted rank was an Chief Master Sargent. I've known people who declined a promotion to an officer because the rank of Lieutenant would be an insult. Doesn't carry the same respect. |
