I'd have to agree on the drilling thing as being something of a joke. It takes all of about 10 minutes of research to find out that it'll solve next to nothing. Sure makes a great sound bite though and we do love to elect based on sound bites. Lipstick on a pig and all. |

Ironically, even John McCain acknowledged these facts back in June, but the righties will never accept it because it sounds like a "sissy" answer. It's a heckuva way to decide national policy, but there it is. Maybe it'll take four more years to figure it out. Hard to say. |

It could be construed that I was implying that the Rightie solution was always wrong and the Lefty solution was always correct. What I was really referring to was the politicization of actual important issues and then actually creating policy based on the sound bites.
Look, it's one thing to craft a short catchy message, but it's another to turn the pithy slogan into actual national policy. Both sides do it and it's dumbing things down to the point where serious stuff is going seriously wrong. It's well past time we collectively grew up. I fully support people doing these things.........voluntarily. HOWEVER.... There's no way to implement or enforce this kind of stuff (other than speed limits and we've been there before)! What are you going to do? Set up checkpoints and pull people over to check their tire pressure and last oil change date! It's absurd. If you plan the future of the country's energy policy on getting people to do these things, we will all go down in flames! Personally, I support the T. Boone Pickens plan. Even if we take every conservation method known today (e.g., slowing down tuneups & pump the tires up, etc.) we still need a supply of petroleum to survive.

If it had been permitted, today's problems could have been mitigated to some degree and we would not now have to wait years to get useable oil from these areas.
