Yesterday, as I was profiling the "Monk" series, I discovered that my Season Four set had 2 Disc Threes . I dug out my receipt and noticed that it had expired last month. I had purchased the first five seasons back on May, 30th and the receipt expired on August, 28th. I took the chance, not expecting anything, of returning the set with my expired receipt. At first the Returns Clerk didn't notice the expiration date and told me to just go back and pick up another copy. I decided to fess up and told her that the receipt was expired. She brought it up on her terminal and thought about it for a moment then told me to go ahead and get another copy. I was surprised and greatful. When I returned with my new copy, all the correct discs this time , she said that normally this wouldn't be happening. She said the manager would never have allowed it because when I had originally purchased the set it was on sale for $19.99 but now it was marked at $39.99, plus my receipt was expired. She winked and said "but what she doesn't know won't hurt her". She removed the shrink wrap, returned my receipt and said "have a nice day".

Now that's customer service .

I had a similar experience with Amazon UK. I bought the second season of Airwolf but hadn't time to watch it. About half a year later I discovered that I had the first and second disc twice and no third and fourth disc.

I contacted Amazon UK, explained it and they sent me another copy right away. I didn't even have to send back my original copy because of the shipping costs.

Wish I could say the same about my Stargate SG-1: The Complete Series set. I discovered a few days ago that I had 2 copies of Season 8: Volume 3: Disc 5 and no Season 7: Volume 3: Disc 5. I contacted Fox and was told that I had to return the entire box set. I asked if I could just return the duplicate Season 8 disc and they send me the Season 7 disc. They said no. I'd have to send the box and they'd replace the entire set. I told them where they could stick that idea . It would cost me more to insure and ship the damn box than it would to purchase a whole new Season 7 from Amazon.com. Which is exactly what I did . I'm tempted to return the Season 7 set to Amazon with the duplicate Season 8 disc from my box set and get my money back .

I had really good customer experience from Amazon. UK as well - I ordered Adobe lightroom from them (thinking it was the correct v2) - installed the software and found it was v1 - contacted them and they just gave me the money back so I could re-order the correct version (which was cheaper). I'd thought it would be a real problems since I had opened up the software..

Best consumer experience I've ever had has been with Creative.  My 7.1 gigaworks speakers developed a fault in the rear right channel after a few months.  So instead of contacting the store I got in touch with creative directly and within a week they'd arranged for a whole new set (worth about £300 at the time) to be shipped to me.
And best of all they said dont bother sending the other set back as the shipping costs would've been prohibitive.  So I sold the sub and 2 of the speakers from the old set as faulty on ebay for £100 and kept the remaining speakers as spares for the new set

Same thing happened with my belkin KVM switch.  Sent me a new one, didnt want the old one.  So my tip is to always try the manufacturer before the retailer
