Unfortunately, I have a hard time finding any good ones  I own and like The Legend of Bagger Vance and The Greatest Game Ever Played. I plan to buy Bobby Jones but I'm not really interested in Tin Cup and certainly not in crap like Happy Gilmore. I'm not looking for golf(related) comedies in general too. I'm sure they'll do a docudrama on the life and times of Tiger Wood's rise from the Mike Douglas show to his retirement of the game.. trouble is with Golf it's such a laid back sport not too much action., & That's where the comedy has to come in to remind us to not fall asleep..  | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. In addition to above mentioned I know only these: - Follow the Sun (1951), the life story of Ben Hogan, starring Glenn Ford, but NOT available on DVD - Pat and Mike (1952), a fictional comedy starring Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn, available on (R1) DVD - The Caddy (1953) a fictional comedy starring Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, NOT available on DVD - Dead Solid Perfect (1988), about life on the pro tours, starring Randy Quaid, NOT on DVD - Caddyshack II (1988), a fictional comedy and definitely crap by your standards, available on DVD (R1 and R2) - Miracle on the 17th Green (1999), a fictional drama starring Robert Urich, available on (R1) DVD - Who's Your Caddy (2007), a fictional comedy starring James Avery, probably crap by your standards (?), available on (R1) DVD | | | | Markku |

| | Posted: | | | | Some of the best were made by W.C. Fields. In the 1915 silent "His Lordship's Dilemma" he utters the words "Hand me that putting niblick...."
More or less repeated at the end of "You're Telling Me" (1934) which someone describes as "The film climaxes with Fields' wonderful golf routine, in which he must deal with manmade hazards of all sorts. Tammany Young plays his infuriatingly inept caddie." But the best one is Fields in "The Golf Specialist" (part of it can be seen on You Tube). Also available as a Criterion edition of course.
"His Lordship's Dilemma" was thought to be lost but a copy was discovered in France (2006). |
