| Posted: | | | | On a practical level, I'm not sure how this would work. For personal use, the tags system would probably be a good way to track this type of information. Trying to go beyond personal, it would be very hard to define. Is a movie a remake of another movie if they're both based on the same source material? | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

I collect a lot of remakes and originals... and think we all have lots of sequels in our collection. What did you have in mind? It could be interesting but have no idea what you are thinking. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | I was thinking in the way of the Awards plugin a box that would list the different versions, sequels, prequels, remakes, re-invision. On the same level imdb has under it's "connection" tab. People I think would be surprised how many of the recent DVDs they have are remakes and might want to check them out. |

| Posted: | | | | I see what you are saying... but since this info would be local only... and not be able to be contributed.. if they don't already know it then it wouldn't get filled in. unless you are thinking something off site that we all contribute to like the awards/episode guides/gallery page and such. If that is the case... I can not make the plugin... but if there is interest and someone makes it I would be glad to contribute to it. | | | Pete |

Pick a title, go to Online, Other Websites, then IMDB Search for This Title. I guess it would be nice if a plug-in could scan your database and report back which titles you have that are remakes or whatever. But as Pete says, how would you share that information from user to user? And how would you define things (with this group of knuckleheads ). Cape Fear (1991) is obviously a remake of Cape Fear (1962). But what about A Fistful of Dollars? Would that be considered a remake of The Seven Samurai? How about The Magnificent Seven? How about A Bug's Life? I'm sure someone would argue the case. I'm not trying to spoil the fun here, just trying to gather some details in case someone (not me ) wants to attempt this. Quote: People I think would be surprised how many of the recent DVDs they have are remakes and might want to check them out. Agreed. If I watch something, I love to check out the original. And they're usually (not always), much better. | | | Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here. Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection. |

| Posted: | | | | Frankly, it might be something as simple as the awards plugin. Instead of the list of awards, a list of other film titles. |

Perhaps it will be for the instigation, but the allocations will be rather subjective, whereas awards (results) are objective. Movie A was or was not nominated. Movie A either won or it didn't. Is Resident Evil a version of Alice in Wonderland? Is the Melbourne indie film a version of MacBeth, and if so, which one? Where does Tromeo & Juliet fall? I know I seem to be knocking this idea, but I'm really playing devil's advocate. It's a good idea, and one that many people probably would like to do themselves. How to impliment it, and the difficulties if it is a shared pool of information, are where the issues lie. For reference, check this thread (on another board, language may be coarser) Movies (or series) based on fairytales?...and finally, how is Star Wars linked to Hidden Fortress? Is it a remake, reimagining, version of or merely inspired by? | | | Adelaide Movie Buffs (info on special screenings, contests, bargains, etc. relevant to Adelaideans... and contests/bargains for other Aussies too!) |

...and finally, how is Star Wars linked to Hidden Fortress? Is it a remake, reimagining, version of or merely inspired by? Well, because it is subjective I think you just take what you get. How many people agree with any of those top 100 lists? Whoever is going to take it upon themselves to maintain the thing gets to decide. Frankly, I wouldn't want the job so I'd take what I get. I'd also add that most of the plugins of this type that I've seen allow for some local editing. Don't agree with the list? Change it. |

| Posted: | | | | The more I think about this, the more I wonder if what is really needed here is a more generic plugin. Call it a profile linker plugin. The ability to link a seemingly disparate set of profiles together to produce a list, but by simply clicking and adding them.
When we add child profiles, we are brought to a window with a master list on the left. We select from this list to choose our children. What if a similar interface were created for this custom linker? Then, on the main profile layout, there is the linker window with a view of everything in the list, perhaps with the cover art, ala cast/crew information lists. Click on an entry and get bounced to that profile. Each profile could contain it's own unique linker list.
It's kind of like custom tags, but a whole lot more convenient and flexible. Think of it more as a custom tag for a particular profile rather than the entire collection and each profile can have it's own custom tag list. | | | Last edited: by mdnitoil |

"inspired" Disney's 'The Lion King' is a remake of Hamlet, whereas you'd have to invent the categorie "so bad they tried to sue it out of cinemas" for 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' ... Yes, sounds like a lot of fun. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki |
