Some would sort them alphabetically on the shelf but that makes a location-based system in DVDP useless as things would change shelf or even bookcase often as you add to your collection. If you number your shelves based on how many DVDs they can hold, you can use the collection number to identify the location. |

| | Posted: | | | | I’ve picked 17 genres that fit my needs and combined them into 8 groups. Storage shelves are labeled with the group number along with each DVD case. Each group of DVDs is then sorted alphabetically on the shelves.
For example: if I’m looking for MYSTERY / SUSPENSE / HORROR, I go to shelf 6.
ACTION / ADVENTURE / WAR is on shelf 4.
Maybe not real elegant but it works for me!
I should add: I can usually find what I'm looking for without cranking up the profiler. However, the shelf number can be stored in the profiler; I use NOTES. | | Posted: | | | | I use various types of cases which were designed for DVDs, CDs, or even old 5.25" floppies, number them, and put the number in the Location slot in DVD Profiler. When I have time, I relocate the latest purchases from the latest case to a case which is more topically appropriate, with other discs of the same kind: Dutch language, Superman, Batman, Holocaust/Israel/genocide/etc., Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Criterions which don't fit one of the other categories, Woody Allen, Catherine Deneuve, classic Universal monsters, Playboy/porn, Zorro, Penélope Cruz, John Wayne, hardboiled/noir, etc. Obviously everyone will have his own categories of interest. Anyhow, if I can find the case I can usually find the DVD without much trouble. I should mention that I store my DVDs in double disk sleeves with a tab on top for the title. Keep cases and suchlike take up too much room (although I do store covers, inserts, etc.). |

I can simply type the title i'm looking for into DVDProfiler and have the DVD in my hands inside of 30 seconds. Here is a picture of my collection. I wouldn't have it any other way. The stickers came in rolls 300 and each roll was about 4 bucks or so. At the time you could only buy 1-900 and i had to special order the rest. The ones i special ordered had the same font and font size but the label was slightly larger but i can't tell the difference between the two. I have mine sorted by release date that way it stays in order for the most part when i buy new DVD's . The lower the number the older the release.
