Went into town today and picked up an Alien vs Predator Motion Globe.  It was selling for £40 but the guy said that the thing that makes the 'snow' swirl automatically was broken so if I wanted it it would be £20.  I figured I'd never use the feature once the novelty wore off so I bought it anyway.

When I got home I decided to open it up to see if it could be fixed.  The strange thing is though that it's not broke at all, from what I can tell it has never swirled!    Inside the globe there is a small rotor that is designed to swirl the water/flakes.  Underneath that (in another sealed compartment in the base) there is the motor.  However the 2 things have no contact whatsoever and never have   I could better illustrate this with pictures but unfortunately I have no camera.

It's no big deal as I bought it knowing it was 'broke' but it's perplexing noneless.  And at 20 quid I can't complain (especially looking at the online prices), and the detailing on it is awesome.

Anyone else have one of these?

I don't own one (as I don't want the film) but I admit it looks awesome!

Could it be supposed to work by the motor inducing some kind of magnetic force to propel the rotor?

EDIT
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

The phrase "Induction Stirrer" comes to mind...my daughter says that she used them in a laboratory during a work placement.

Thats exactly what it turned out to be!  However I had to rip the rotor off to find this out    I think the magnet attached to the rotor had 'run out of magnetism' () In the end I glued the rotor directly onto the motor, sealed the holes on the top, cut a hole between the base and globe and glued it to seal.  Had it running for a few hours yesterday and no leaks or over heating occurred, its also much quieter (silent in fact) and it looks great!
