| Posted: | | | | Like the title says. I'm doing a profile for The Hitchhiker Volume 3 from HBO and now some have these credits in the opening. They are also all producers or executive producers from earlier episodes (the epsiodes aren't in any order), but credited different on later ones. |

| Posted: | | | | Not. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

I can understand the argument that some might posit for Supervising Producers, but unlike a Supervising Sound Editor or Art Director, a Supervising Producer does not sit at the top of the Producer tree, in fact such a credit is far closer to the bottom of the tree than the top.

| Posted: | | | | What about Supervising Director?
I have seen this on a few animated TV series episodes credits. I think these also have a directors credited as well, but what exactly does a Supervising Director do? |

| Posted: | | | | No, for the same reason, Cubby, the Supervising Director is not atop level position, he sits below the Director and any assistants.

Skip Skip, please stop repeating this falsehood. In television, a Supervising Producer is most definitely a "higher grade" than a regular Producer. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Oh I bow to the expert....NOT. My comment is based on knowledge of the industry and how the hierarchy is typically established, hal. First you make an ad hominem attack, then you make a statement that is to be taken because hal said so and offers nothing to back it up.n GOOD GRIEF. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! | Posted: | | | | The basic problem is the inflation in job titles, in Hollywood and everywhere else.
When we had e.g. Art Directors and Assistant Art Directors, we would credit the former. Now when they have been upgraded to Supervising Art Directors (or whatever) and Art Directors respectively, we would credit the former and present assistants but not the supposedly creatively more important principal? | | | Hans |

In television, a Supervising Producer is most definitely a "higher grade" than a regular Producer. Indeed. Solid documentation to that effect has been provided time and time again in previous debates about this. Yet Skip still feels his (incorrect) opinion trumps all that... For a start, I'll quote the Producers Guild of America again, who say: "A Supervising Producer supervises one or more producers in the performance of some or all of his/her/their producer functions, on single or multiple productions, either in place of, or subject to the overriding authority of an Executive Producer." Also, this is quite easy to understand if you just look at the "job progression" you often see people on long-running TV shows go through. For instance, here's the bio for 'Star Trek: Enterprise' producer Merri Howard, which explains how she was promoted to supervising producer ("expanding duties"). Obviously she didn't feel she got demoted, did she? | | | Last edited: by T!M |

In addition to Skip's rant about my pointing out his repeated false statements about SPs relative to TV, he felt compelled to throw out a red zinger as well. Something he has repeatedly claimed that he doesn't do! Yeah, right! | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | Wow, now you are jumping to conclusions, hal. Yes I am angry at your repeated ad hominem attacks, which lowers your credibility tremendously. If you got a red zinger then you need to answer foir it, it was not i that threw it. In fact, as far as I am concerned your ad hominems have been so frequent and insulting, you have NO credibility. You might try being more friendly or something, I don't know what, I have come to believe that you just a nasty person, and i don't like that, I keep looking for signs that point otherwise and can't find them. I will add that I believe you have on more than one occasion thrown reds that I consider unwarranted but i can't prove it nor would i publicly try to paint you that way.
