Why is this even news?  Bit part actors are payed a standard wage.  A wage usually based on the local economy.  In this case, according to the article, they were payed above the local wage for 30 days of work.

Anyone who thought these kids were going to have their lives changed, isn't living in the real world.  Your circumstances don't change based on a, temporary, 30 day job.

I know it is cold, but it is the hard truth.  When it comes to actors, stars get rich, regular actors earn a living and bit players get a check.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I think Widescreen is just saying it is a shame where values are.

My post wasn't aimed at you in particular, just a general question as to why this is newsworthy.

According to the same article, about half of Mumbai's population live in slums.  Why is the story only about these two kids, who were hired to do a job and were payed an above average wage for doing it, instead of all the children in the slums?  That's a rhetorical question as I already know the answer, but that was the point I was making.

A lot of people assume because a movie is doing very good that everyone involved with it is getting rich.

It does seem that way.  As I pointed out above, there are three types of actors...well, four if you count extras...and only one of those types is going to get rich.

Maybe it'll start a trend in which "lesser" actors get paid more....

In more Slumdog news, Azharuddin Mohammed, returning jetlagged from Hollywood to Mumbai, was beaten by his father for preferring to rest before being displayed to journalists.
