I've just purchased DVD Profiler and am sitting down over the next few weeks with a barcode scanner and am entering my collection (1500+ DVDs - mostly Aust/Region4, some US/R1 & UK/R2).

Several discs so far (200 in) haven't scanned by UPC, and I've been contributing changes but it seems I'm doing it wrong as they are getting rejected.  I have read the Contribute Rules, Faq, KB and several entries in this forum.

For example, I have a copy of an Australian (Region 4) Family Guy Season 3 with a different UPC [9-321337-058771] to that in the database [9-321337-044972] - most likely the distributor re-released it, but it's otherwise identical (including cover art).  So I downloaded the existing profile, updated the UPC, and contributed it stating "different UPC code - scanned from product" as the notes, however it was rejected with "The UPC/EAN of the contributed cover scan does not match the profile's UPC/EAN".  I didn't contribute the cover scan.

Another "The Dresser" [Aust Reg4, UPC 9-317731-025211], I downloaded the US product, updated region code, UPC, locality and other appropriate information and wrote "Australian UPC code scanned off original packaging".  It was rejected with "Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted..."

Ditto for "The Covenant" [Aust Reg4, UPC 9-317731-055478].

Other contributions are marked as "Released" - does that mean they are accepted?

I want to do the right thing and contribute back to improve the database.  If anyone has any advice as to how to contribute these correctly, I would appreciate it.

Kind regards
Damian

[9-321337-058771]
When you change the UPC of a profile you basically create a new one. When you contribute that the UPC on the cover must match the one of the profile or else it will be rejected. You either scan your actual covers or you uncheck "contribute images" (this question comes in the program, before the website pops up)

[9-317731-025211], [9-317731-055478]
You should state where the original data comes from. Submit it as "changed UPC & locality, otherwise profile is copy of UPC ..."

"Released"
Yes they have been. Contribution status is: Received -> Approved -> Released, or Received -> Declined

A huge welcome to the community quog

Also very nice to contribute just after buying DVDProfiler.

DJ Doena said everything you need to know, cover must match UPC and released meant you contribution got thru

Votes you will only receive on updates not on new contributions.
New contributions get checked by the screeners.

It seems everytime I buy a used dvd from a rental outlet, diespite the disc ID being the same, the UPC is always a couple/few numbers off. I'll usually grab the profile from the disc ID, change the UPC, and contribute new scans to show/prove the UPC does exist. I think the cover scan is most important thing in these situations and probably why your submissions got declined. Without a scan there's nothing to prove that you didn't just make a mistake or are trying to make something up and contribute it.
If the existing info looks off or incomplete, I'll do a full audit for both UPC's.

Thanks Donnie.  I've tried lots of programs and this is the first that actually works well, and caters well to more than just US/Region 1 releases.  I'm impressed.
