My apologies if this has been posted before. I did a search on the forums, but didn't find a topic relating to it, but was only able to search back as far as 30 Days (the any date search kept timing out and wouldn't return any results).

I was wondering if anyone else thinks that the character limit on contribution notes should be increased, even if just slightly.

Tonight I finished updating the profile for the Canadian edition of Alias: The Complete Fourth Season.

In my contribution, I made these changes:

Country of Origin
Case Type
Studios/Media Companies
Features
Crew
Cast

My contribution notes had about 30-35% of them cut off due to the character limit.

I realize no one wants to read a novel in the contribution notes, and usually I'm as concise and to the point as possible, as I was with my notes here. But, having to explain that yes, the digipak does actually come in a slip cover, where I got the information from for actor's characters that weren't credited with a character name during the credits, an instance of an uncredited cast member and the timestamp they appeared during the episode (while also stating it wasn't archive footage), and three cases of using the credited as field for the cast, while stating the CLT results and that yes I did the research to ensure the accuracy of the credited as fields I applied was WAY more than the character limit could handle!

I find in general even, that if you're doing a regular film update instead of adding an entire season's worth of cast and crew, that if you have more than three or four credited as fields being applied, or have made numerous changes to already exisiting data, that your notes can get cut off anyway. I can't imagine how much of my notes would've gotten cut off it I had seven or eight instances of Credited As during the season, which is more than capable of happening to any given television season.

Not that I'm campaigning for the change or anything, just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this problem on different occasions. And yes, I realize your notes are viewable in the closed forum for notes, but not everyone will check there (I edited my notes tonight to include the link, which then cut off more of my notes  ). And hey, if you don't need the extra space for your notes, it's not like it takes up more room or anything!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

Sorry... didn't realize that was as long as it was!

I promise, in my notes I'm way more concise and don't drag on nearly as long. In the forums, I'm as wordy as they come, but not in my notes!!

Although they get chopped at a certain point if viewing through the voting screen, the full notes can still be read. When on the screen for choosing which to evaluate, if you click the button on the left hand side, it will take you to the full history for that UPC/EAN & your notes will show in full. It's not ideal as not everyone knows about it (I didn't until a few months ago) but just so you know.

I do agree that it would make sense to show all of the contribution on the voting screen.

As for searches timing out, do a Google search and put "site:invelos.com" at the end without the quotes. That works much better than the forum search.

Or you could always make two submissions. In the example you quote you could submit:
Country of Origin, Case Type, Studios/Media Companies, Features
And make a 2nd submission for the cast and crew. As there is no overlap there is no danger of data being accidentally removed or overwritten by having 2 outstanding submissions.

Edit: as Antolod says this only works if you wait for the 1st one to be approved before submitting the rest.

North, that doesn't work, unless he would wait until the first contribution was approved. If you submit a contribution on top of an existing one, the first one is wiped out. Besides, why increase the work load of the screeners to create 2 submissions if you have all of the work ready to submit.

As others said, the notes aren't really lost, just not displayed. I and others have complained about this behavior of the evaluation screen since the change in notes display was first noticed. IMO, at the very least, if the notes exceed the display area, then the evaluation screen should clearly indicate there is an overflow. Something like:
"The contribution notes have been truncated, click here to read them all" at the last line would be great.

You're right, I forgot to make that clear.

I don't know.  Since Ken has officially relieved us of the onus of documenting every last comma we add, I find I have enough space for my notes.  I will grant you that I'm not doing TV series.

Happened again with Alias: The Complete Fifth Season just now.

I was completely unaware that button was there. Thanks for pointing it out. It'll make it easier in the future to just click that rather than go back into my local and open the notes that way.

That is an excellent suggestion and I would love if something like that could be implemented. Since there's nothing pointing out the icon to click on as mentioned above (and apparently there's at least a few of us unaware that it's even there), a straight forward "click here" link would be great.

I voted on a submission the other day where the notes were cut off during a line break the contributor had made, so it looked like everything was intact and the notes were full. Looking at the contribution, I noticed a credited as that wasn't documented as the other in the contribution had been, and only then realized the notes had been chopped off. Mine so far, have all been chopped mid word, so it's a little more obvious, but that wouldn't always be the case.
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

23 vs. 4 at this point, so apparently a few think a limit increase would be helpful.

A solution to this problem could be a post in this forum and a link to the post in contribution notes.
