MGM (and some other studios) often insert their new logo into the opening credits of films they've acquired over the years from acqusitions of other smaller studios. Many times this replaces the original Theatrical Release Studio logo/text. The current rules as far as studios go state nothing about always sourcing the studios from the actual film credits, but simply: Quote:
List the Studios in the following priority.
Theatrical Release Studio(s)
Production Company(s) Now, if MGM had nothing at all to do with the original theatrical release of a film, should they even be entered into the main studios section simply because they now appear in the film's newer altered credits? Additionally, if the original theatrical studio of a film is not listed on the covers or anywhere in the film credits anymore, can we safely add it to studios with proper documentation? | | | | Corey |

The profile has: UA & Eon listed as studios
MGM inserted the logo at the front of the film, no UA was seen there (i didn't think to check the end of the film).
The slip case copyright block credits UA (1964). MGM is credited for Package Design (2008).
Someone else might find MGM credit worthy but i left well enough alone and didn't include them.

| | Posted: | | | | I have been told before, that the logo is not really a valid source for theatrical companies, Really it needs to come from the text at the beginning or the end of the movie (United artists present for example)
I think that MGM would become the Media company for them on any new releases for the dvd.

| | Posted: | | | | I fully agree with what Charlie said, except that many of these older films don't have any text, they just had the logos. I'm sure there must be a reliable website for actual studio info. Hell, even imdb will have almost all of these right. I noticed that on filmratings.com they mention the original release studio along with the rating (and rating details if new enough). Since that's connected to the MPAA's homepage, I would think it should be as reliable as anything. The MPAA gets to see everything first, so they'd know the original studio before the public. |
