| Posted: | | | | Hello everyone,
Today an user did an update on 3 Extremes: Two-Disc Special Edition (US) UPC: 031398-178002 for which he removed all info and made a boxset of this release. I have had a very friendly PM discussion with him and with his permission i come to the forums and ask your opinion.
Now, first up i understand his reasoning and i'm sure that he's not even breaking rules, although the way i proposed doesn't break the rules either.
These are the facts: This release is Three Extremes, a serie of 3 short films (Dumplings, Cut and Box)on one disc, the second disc is the longer, full-lenght release of Dumplings, one segment of the first disc.
His reasoning, quite understandebly, is that this is a boxset containing two movies (the Three Extremes shorts, and Dumplings). I however view this as a movie (Three Extremes) with bonus movie (Dumplings), like Ben-Hur (with 1925 version) or the Criterion release of 49th Paralel with the Volunteer added.
What is your opinion, i voted Yes thus far but may change my vote later (would this be against the rules?), or keep it locally as a Bonus Feature set.
Again i'd like to point out i understand the contributor and have been discussing this topic on very friendly terms via PM and only started this threat with permission.

| Posted: | | | | I am not familiar with this title so I will explain my thoughts on the matter... for me it would depend on how it is on the front cover. How it is being sold. Something like this would be a boxset as they are obviously selling it as a 2 movie set... Something like this would be a bonus movie and should use bonus movie rules (like Ben Hur)... ...at the bottom it says in small words "Also includes the 1933 Technocolor Original Mystery of the Wax Museum" Which means in my opinion it should be treated as a bonus movie. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

| Posted: | | | | Here's the front cover: and a link to DVD-Empire with some info couldn't find a backcovershot quickly but you can of course always check by adding this disc to your collection. Paul |

| Posted: | | | | I agree with Pete. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. We will teach it to them again. Though it take a thousand years, we will be free. - Citizen G'Kar |

| Posted: | | | | I don't know enough about this set of films, based on the description, I am not sure that it would qualify as a bonus film based on the design purpose of the bonus film which has a very specific function. There are not very many such films, but there are a few, The Maltese Falcon, Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments and the Wizard of Oz come to mind. They all, with the exception of the Falcon, had the same thing in common, they all included Original versions of the film sharing the same title, The Falcon was a remake of an earlier film with a different title. It did not make any real sense to set up full blown parents, and then children with all their data ALL with the same basic title. I don't see that in this case, so I would call it a Boxset pure and simple.

| Posted: | | | | It took me a while (too many interruptions) but I found the "Bonus Feature Film" rules, why it is buried in the "Disc Features" section I don't know I think it sould be included in the Boxset section also. I see now that I was wrong and will change my submission. But I do think that something about Bonus Feature Film's sould be coverd in the Boxset section also.

Randy I wouldn't say you were wrong, you just interpreted the rules (understandably) different. Even i wasn't sure my interpetation was correct that's why i asked if i could discus this on the forums. Thank you for changing you contribution though. Paul |

| Posted: | | | | Bonus Feature is correct for "3 Extemes".
It's a full length film on a separate disc, and I think even advertised as such on the back cover. Mine is set up like that in my DVD Profiler. | | | Achim [諾亞信; Ya-Shin//Nuo], a German in Taiwan. Registered: May 29, 2000 (at InterVocative) |

Any Boxset, take your pick, Cary Grant, John Wayne any Boxset of films, of films has movies on separate discs. I explained the thinking behind the Bonus Feature concept which is reinforced in the Rules. This set simply doesn't seem to fit that premise. Explain please. It seems that you believe that Boxset should never be used at all, I am confused. You've read my explanation I presume, I want to hear your logic.
Is there something about this set that I am missing in what has been described.

Skip If you have a boxset you have, say the Humphrey Bogart Signature collection, The main profile is the SLipcase, each movie having it own profile (the children) making it a boxset. This one however is 3 Extremes (a movie, consisting of 3 seperate stories) with, as added bonus, Dumplings, one segment of 3 Extremes in it's uncut, extended form. So in my opinion, and seeing the poll others as well, this does qualify as a bonus feature. Look at the cover, it's title is 3 Extremes, it's not named Asian Horror Collection or something, it's not a set of movies from the same director and thus it's a movie (3 Extremes, as on cover) with a bonus feature Paul |
