A DVD of the Brazilian novel adaptation Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands came out in December. I've looked for it, but naturally it's not turned up in any of the local stores. Finally I decided to order it, and find out that it's no longer available from the manufacturer and that copies from small dealers are priced @$100-$150. What gives? It's not that spectacularly popular a movie. Reminds me of the butterfly-brief appearance of Dr. Syn, The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh in a Disney tin. (I guess that means that no one better hesitate about the upcoming Guy Williams Zorro tins.) Why are we getting Blu-ray issues of notoriously craptacular movies but DVDs of the good stuff aren't issued in sufficient quantity to last six months?

Nice, except the site accepts orders only from libraries or government agencies.
