| Posted: | | | | Imo B-Roll should NOT be considered an "Other Feature".
It either falls in the category Featurettes (Quoting the rules : Featurettes Any video documentary material regarding the film, or those associated with it. )
or
the category Outtakes/Bloopers (Quoting the rules : Outtakes/Bloopers Footage, generally mistakes, captured during filming, generally humorous. Occasionally, outtakes are scripted (e.g. animated outtakes).
(In retrospect I'm leaning toward Featurette)
Since one of my contributions has recieved 2 no-votes stating that B-Roll is a valid other feature I'd like to get some more opinions on the matter before withdrawing/changing. Especially since I have loads of DVD's with B-roll and, using Database Query, only 4 of them (old ones at that, most recent 2002) have B-Roll in their profile as an extra feature. That tells me that most contributors do NOT consider B-Roll to be an Other Feature.
Opinions much appreciated. |

| Posted: | | | | IMHO, it is a valid "other feature". I have a few dozen DVD's that have this - there's a certain Dutch DVD distributor who seems to delight in putting this on their discs, though it's rarely very interesting. I really don't think it's a "featurette" of any kind: there are no on-camera interviews or other comments relating to the movie or any of the cast and crew whatsoever: it's merely fifteen minutes of seemingly random "B-Roll" footage, without any introduction, explanation, nor a clear beginning or end. If I tick the "featurette" box, I'm inclined to think that the disc has some kind of "documentary material regarding the film", and there's not. I also don't feel they're "Outtakes/Bloopers", as they're not that, either. They're simply not outtakes, nor bloopers. They're certainly not "humorous". It's B-Roll footage.
If I see "featurettes" ticked, I expect there to be some kind of featurette. There isn't. If I see "outtakes/bloopers" ticked, I expect too see some funny bloopers. There aren't any. As far as I can see, B-Roll footage is en entirely different beast, and something that warrants inclusion as an "other feature". |

| Posted: | | | | I considered it to be sort of an unpolished "making of"-type of thing. (It's mostly footage of scenes being shot as far as I've seen) Like Tim I've got dozens of these, and as I stated in the OP, very few of mine have B-Roll specifically mentioned. Given Tim's explanation however I now DO agree that it should be an "Other Feature". I shall change this contribution accordingly. (Other DVD's with this feature will have to wait until I run into them.) Thanks to all of you for your input. Cheers, Steve |

| Posted: | | | | If I am not mistaken B.Roll is seen as "Outtakes" in the film industry, but I am not 100 % sure on this If I contributed aDVD with B-Roll I ticked Outtakes/Bloopers, so far I never got a NO vote. But as I said, I won't bet my life on this cheers Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | I've always understood B-roll footage to be more in the nature of outtakes. This wiki seems to agree:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B-roll
Ditto for Google:
http://www.google.com/search?q=define:B-roll
But if it's actually just an assemblage of behind-the-scenes footage I'd be inclined to put under Other Features; Featurette connotes to me a more organized or coherent presentation. Indeed, the same B-roll footage with a voiceover or subtitles explaining what it is probably could be a featurette. Context is important. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |
