Sounds to me like the problem lies with WinDVD not supporting a feature in that BD set. It might be worth trying to playback the discs with another software program, if you have one available on your PC that can play Blu-rays.

Otherwise, check which features the set has (BD Live, etc) and compare with the features supported by your version of WINDVD so see if they match.

I've also seen mixed results with WinDVD on the notebook of my dad, with discs that played flawlessly on my standalone player (a PS3)

I have to wonder about software on the Blu-ray discs being regularly "upgraded" and the necessity for the players to be regularly upgraded in order to keep up.  It's very annoying to be forced to upgrade the application to keep up with the discs.  Will this be a perpetual thing from now on?


I still have PowerDVD 7 (OEM version that came with my BD/HD drive) installed and get this warning with some (almost always newer discs) Blu-rays.

I finally bit the bullet and bought PowerDVD 8 Ultra (full version which allows v7 to co-exist, necessary for the HD-DVDs) a few months ago and have had no issues with it.  It has played every disc v7 wouldn't.

Of course i bought v8 just two weeks before v9 was announced.    A couple emails to Cyberlink got me a free upgrade to v9 Ultra.

I haven't installed v9 yet because 1) unsure how it will co-exist with v7 and 2) haven't needed it yet.

I still use v7 by default because it has a smaller default window size (uses less screen) and is more responsive to shortcut keys (e.g. space bar is Pause. Works great in v7, works when it wants in v8, which isn't often)

I recently had that very same problem with the Force 10 from Navarone Blu-ray. I tried it in PowerDVD 8 and 9 ultra, both with the latest updates from Cyberlink installed, and it still stated the player needed an update. It played fine in TotalMedia Theatre 3 however.

I agree with cmaeditor, it's that lame BD+ copy protection Fox uses. This is the one thing I hate about Blu-ray.
