| Posted: | | | | I've noticed a number of Chinese movies, at least in their U.S. releases, have credits both in Chinese and English (example: Hero). My Chinese isn't very good but I'm pretty sure a number of people are credited by different names in the two sets of credits. I'm not just talking about name order, but people with Westernized names like Maggie & Tony vs. their Chinese names. How do we handle this? |

| Posted: | | | | Shaolin Soccer has the same type of credits. I noticed that the profile had errors in the cast but after looking at the credits in the movie and feeling the hairs on the back of my neck rise, I closed DVD Profiler and went to go sit in the corner of the room and rock back-n-forth. |

The same happens a lot for Japanese movies released outside of Japan, where the original credits scroll and subtitles appear, most of the time only mentioning a few key actors and crew members, often with errors as well. My personal opinion would be that it's better to follow the original credits, but that would require the submitter to have at least some decent notions of the original language. If you want to see an example, you can check the profile of the UK Blu-ray release of the Japanese movie Saiyuuki (Monkey Magic) : UPC: 5060085366038 All credits (actors & crew) were taken from the original Japanese credits by me. Had I taken the subtitles of the credits, I would have ended up with all but 4 actors and 2 crew members, as most of them weren't even translated (and of those translated, some even contained errors). So I just romanized the credits and where needed provided a translation. e.g.: Kiyotaka Nanbara : Ki-Son Gokuu (fake Son Gokuu) As you can see, I romanized the actor's name, romanized the part he played and between brackets provided a translation of that part ('ki' being a Japanese character used for fakes) Just my 2 cents ... | | | Blu-ray collection DVD collection My Games My Trophies |

My proposal pinned to the sticky thread on top is still out there. We can bring up dozens of threads on this topic, but nothing is going to change until Ken and Gerri issue new rules or changes in policy. Maybe I am missing something but, if it is the US release, why wouldn't you just use the english credits? I don't collect Asian DVDs so it is very likely that I am missing something and I just want to understand. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once.
