| Posted: | | | | I would like to head PING-PONG off at the start.
When is the difference between UHV (Universal Home Video) and USHE (Universal Studios Home Entertainment) ?
I know at sometime UHV became USHE. Does anybody know the date.
The reason I ask, there is a contribution for American Wedding up for vote. The contributor says that his copyright block only states Universal Studios and since universal.com/home now redirects to USHE, that the MC is USHE.
I have a copy of that with a different cover (I think mine is actually a rerelease cover, I have the DVD info block on mine). My copyright block states 2002 Universal Home Video.
Just because the UHV site doesn't exist and is now USHE, that should not judge the MC of the disk. But since his copyright block states something different than mine, I would like to have some input (feedback).
I am withholding my vote, until I can get some definite answers on what and when for Universal Studios. |

That is a re-release and does not have cover scans for the individual discs. If you own the individual releases, and they say UHV, that would be the proper MC...at least for me. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Actually, Charlie UHV became UHE approximately 2000, then there was a brief metamorphosis into USHV about 2004, this can be seen in the UPCs released at that time, then 2005 to now yhey became USHE.

| Posted: | | | | I own original releases of the individual titles for the 3 (main) American Pie films and as far as I can see they only say "Universal Studios" on them.
I've also been withholding a vote on these as I wasn't sure which way to vote. |

| Posted: | | | | Didn't we recently get a ruling from Ken stating that unless studio has genuinely change entity (through merger or acquisition), we are to use a common name. Wouldn't this fall under that guideline and possibly solved through invelos contribution filter to same common studio name? Quoting Ken Cole: Quote: If there's significant value in a differentiation between studio names, we want to keep that distinction. However, in cases where it's just semantics, standardization via filter works. We do this now with variations of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment and Warner Bros.
So, if over time a studio has changed it's corporate structure (via acquisition, for instance), we don't want to merge names. But, if the name variations mean the same studio, we can standardize.
Where we go forward with standardization, it will be via filter. I don't want to complicate the rules unnecessarily. | | | My Home Theater | | | Last edited: by xradman |

| Posted: | | | | ... and then there is that dreaded phrase in the rules: "There is further information about correct names for studios, and the opportunity to ask questions if unsure, in the Contributions forum." ... which suggests there is something like a "correct" (ahem) name. |

| Posted: | | | | I thought I remembered a recent thread. Thanks xradman! I'm not sure it really helps in this case though - Quote: If there's significant value in a differentiation between studio names, we want to keep that distinction. There is quite a difference between "Universal Home Video" and "Universal Studios Home Entertainment" Without evidence to support one over the other, I'd probably leave as is. |

If/when there is a filter in place, then we can worry about a 'common name'. Until then, I prefer the 'correct' name. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. I personally think they are synonymous. But if you feel that way about these 2 names, I'm not sure 'common name' idea will ever work. | | | My Home Theater |

The examples that Ken previously gave of Twentieth Vs 20th & Warner Brothers Vs Warner Bros are two that I would agree on as it's only a slight difference in how a word is shown. Video & Entertainment are two completely separate words. As for a "Common Name" it would (presumably) work the same way as the CLT for cast/crew currently works, with the most credited name being the common one. So there would be no problem. |

You can see that above in the Quote that xradman provided. So the way I read that we are to use the credits until such a time Ken feels the need to standardize something with a filter... but he does not want us standardizing it ourselves. Ken please correct me if I am confused on the matter. | | | Pete |
