Forum Moderator(s)

Be sure to lock this thread as the fourteen movies discussed speak of politics.

Movies

Regarding JibJab they make funny videos. It seems that a few members want to turn this into something it's not meant to be. I expect these same individuals would relish the opportunity to politicize (here) any movie regarding politics. Please try to view: cartoons, movies, etc. which mention politics, for there entertainment value.

DJ Doena - Gold star to you!

I'm surprised that Chaplin's "The Great Dictator" didn't make the list of fourteen!

The way I see it the original post of the JibJab-thread wasn't political at all, but it was turned into a political thread (for not saying "pirated") by one or two of the following posts. The correct way to moderate this would have been (if at all) to remove the posts that had a direct political reference.

So a big virtual to the moderator for completely overreacting.

Anyone who believes that the video posted in the OP was not political and/or would not generate a political discussion is kidding themselves.

The moderator did exactly what they should have, albeit, a little late.

So just linking to a video where ( a carricature of) the President of the USA appears now qualifies as a political thread??
I really hope that all questions regarding "Forest Gump" are already asked.

Goblins - Gold star at you, you get my drift!

Unfair 'Hal' - I've always thought JibJab made funny cartoons, & wanted to share.

So far, I've never seen:

Rated 'R' for Politics

but usually there's more dirty dealings there than in an 'X' rated movie.

Forest Gump is a MOVIE released on DVD and included in the DVDP database.  Discussion of it is well within bounds.

That is nowhere near the same as discussion of a political satire on current day politics posted on YouTube.

If you can't see the difference, it is only because you do not wish to.

I agree with Hal.  I saw that post before anybody replied to it.  I knew where that thread was going to go but, because Rico seems to think I have an agenda, decided not to comment.  Where did the thread go without my comment?  Exactly where a thread, started by political satire, will always go...into political discussion.  Anyone who believed that wouldn't happen is living in a very large river in Egypt.

Bottom line, political topics are not allowed...and that includes links to political satire.  It is unfortunate that a few members can't seem to grasp that fact.

It seems 3 individuals were hell bent to make it into a political topic. Many more people viewed the cartoon & were/weren't entertained, moved on & did not feel compelled to turn it into a political debate. Also note the cartoon had merit, as one could upload a picture & partake in the cartoon, somehow this was overlooked, by those aching to politicize anything.

If this is true, then we should avoid discussing political movies, TV comedy shows etc., that talk or deal with politics.

Forget about Politics for a moment: Let's say we have the full gambit (dis-interested to highly outspoken) folks here, regarding Fords vs Chevy. Soon 'Ford vs Chevy' topic becomes a not so friendly & becomes annoying to others. So what should we do? Outlaw all discussions regarding, cars, automobile industry, for fear that it might lead to the 'Ford vs Chevy' topic.

Somehow this approach just does not seem right to me. I believe management has failed to control, the behavior of the offending poster.

I viewed the jibjab thread and I have seen the Obama video many times prior and yes I had an opinion about the political satire but I just didn't post it.

Basically these forum's are property of Invelos and they have the right to ban/moderate any topic matter they find counterproductive to the purpose of their website!  If, in your above scenario, a topic on Ford Vs. Chevy becomes detrimental to the function of these forum's then yes Invelos and the Moderators might have to institute rules to controll those topics as well!!!

In the end it is easier to close/outlaw difficult topics then it is reprimand anyone who vocally expresses his opinions on such topics!  You are a prime example, I would rather them close a potentially volatile topic then outright ban you because you posted something potentially opinionated!!!

Are you serious here?  You posted a link to a video, that can only be described as political satire, and you are blaming the people who responded for trying to make it into a political topic?  I hate to burst your bubble, but it was already a political topic.  If you don't believe that, then you have a serious case of denial.

What you are doing, providing links to topics that have been deemed inapropriate by the site owner, isn't the same as discussing political films/TV shows. This is a site for DVD collecting software.  Discussion of DVDs, and the films/TV shows they contain, is appropriate.  Should those discussions devolve into political debate, I would expect that the mods would lock that topic or delete the offending posts.

There's an old saying, "you should never discuss sex, politics or religion in polite company."  Whether you agree or not, Ken has decided that his forum will abide by that saying.  Since this is his forum, if we want to participate, we must abide by that decision.  I am not sure why you are finding that so difficult.

I've silently followed along your frustration with threads being locked that you, for whatever reason, don't feel should have been locked.  But posting a thread in which you directly taunt the moderators doesn't seem like a good solution to the problem.  Perhaps your time would be better spent discussing this directly with Ken through the PM system.  Beside, you really don't seem to be collecting many flies with your vinegar.

Anyway, that's just my opinion (since you seemed to be asking with your thread title).

Calidain has a very valid point here. Banned topics are what the owner of the forums says they are.

But I still think that the same video with e.g. Ahmadinedschad as the carricatured individual wouldn't have caused a "political lock".
