| | Posted: | | | | Perhaps this is a silly question, but I wanted to know how to properly input the various blu-ray case types. Now, when it's box sets like AvP blu-ray box set or Austin Powers and so on, I use slip case for the parent profile and HD slim for each movie. When there's a slipcover, I just tick 'slip cover'. So far, no problems. Here's where things get fuzzy. We have two possibilities in DVDP for the cases themselves: HD Keep Case and HD Slim. The first is for US and Japanese cases (region A), the latter for European releases (region B), which are a bit thinner. However, there is a third much thinner type of case often used in movie box sets, such as AvP, Austin Powers, Star Trek TOS movie box, Ultimate Matrix Collection, etc. Here's what each looks like (sorry for the poor picture quality). Left is profiled as HD Keep Case (region A releases), middle is HD slim (region B) and the right side is also profiled as HD slim (slim cases for box sets)  The problem as I see it, is that the difference in thickness between the region A and region B cases is minimal, but the difference between the right cases and the regular region A and B cases is much bigger, yet they are profiled the same as region B cases. My question is: am I missing something or do others also feel this is an issue that needs addressing? Perhaps we need a break-down as follows for HD cases: - HD Keep Case (region A) - HD Slim (region B) - HD ultra slim (often used in box sets) Or should we keep the options we have and start using HD Keep Case for both region A and B (even though there's a slight difference) and use HD Slim for those really thin cases? | | Posted: | | | | Just a little remark on the side: I don't agree with your assumption that the HD Keep Case is only used in region A, while the HD Slim Case is only used in region B - it's not. In my (region B-heavy) collection the balance between both case types really is about fifty-fifty... |

In my collection, most UK Blu-ray have the thicker HD Keep Case, while German releases mostly have the slimmer HD Slim Case. | | |

| | Posted: | | | | I've yet to see a single US single movie release in HD Keepcase. Almost all US releases are in HD Slim cases. There have been recent introduction of box sets that use even slimmer cases (~1/2 width of HD Slim cases), but we don't have a DVDP name for them yet. Recently Criterion has started releasing Blu-ray movies in clear cases about the size of HD Keepcase, but without the blue banner on top. I've commented on this in the case discussion, but for now I advocate calling these plain Keepcase to keep the program from adding blue banner to the top. | | | | My Home Theater |
