I second Karsen's recommenation of Collectorz.  Over the years I have obtained several of the programs: Music Collector (which I still use), Book Collector, Movie Collector, and Photo Collector.  I never felt that Movie Collector was much competition for DVD Profiler so I only kept upgrading the program while it was free.  For a time (and I don't know if it's still true) Collectorz agreed to honor their promise of one payment forever for licenses for those who had purchased a license years ago.

I don't use Book Collector or Photo Collector as I'm not doing much collecting of books now or taking many Photos -- but at the time I got those programs I was doing both.  Upgrades aren't a big thing for me now, consequently, except for Music Collector.

These programs are all basically the same, modified somewhat for each type of thing being catalogued.  (There is a Game Collector, too, as I recall).  The licenses are starting to get a little pricey compared to what they once were, but what isn't?  They have platforms for Windows and Mac, and I believe also have a totally Online application now (based on a recent newsletter).

You should try them out -- as they may meet your requirements.

Featurewise I agree that DVDP is much better than DVD Collector, except when it comes to unicode support: DVDP doesn't have any kind of unicode support and entering characters not part of western keyboard will corrupt your DVDP database. Having a look at readerware I came across a recommendation for MediaMan which I've downloaded the trial version of. I can't seem to get it to work (can't edit anything)..but the display and interface are nice compared to Collectorz

OK created my own database, added a couple of books, a cd and some BD and a DVD. Edited successfully, although it got a bit confusing as the edit button kept disappearing and only reappeared when I clicked on a item or on a blank bit of shelf.

Forgot to say my Vista is Home Premium.

Ok hope you get it sorted. I might go for this for my CD's, currently use readerware for them, but I will play with it a bit more first. I tried collectorz but didn't get on with it. Books I will leave on librarything and as you say DVDP for DVD, HD-DVD and BD.

Got MediaMan working (error in my settings).

Personally I think this is a great looking program. I LOVE the Virtual Shelf view. As a collector of DVDs, Books, CDs, Games etc it looked like it would do everything.

Here's where it's not so good:
Book wise - can't do secondary sort, eg. Author then Series, then Volume (very important to me as some authors release books that 'fit in' between previous books they've written...Anne McCaffrey's Pern series springs to mind).
Can't sort by Volume at all; alphabetical is the default.

I didn't bother looking at the Movies section as there's not a chance in hell I would stop using Profiler (despite thinking some of the users are complete knobs!).

CDs are great in this. The display actually puts the cover in a virtual CD case.
