OK... I just got the TV Series Booker (spin-off of 21 Jump Street) And I must say I absolutely despise the case they used. It is one I personally never seen before.. and hopefully will never see again. Granted this set is very cheap (I paid $9.17 for the set of 20 episodes)... but they should have done better on the case then what they did!

When you first get it you see what looks to be a normal (albeit wide) Keep case...

But when you open it you find 4 envelops (1 per disc) clipped into the case...

As you can see (I know barely... quick photos not my best work)... the envelopes is what clips into the the case instead of the DVDs on hubs. So if anything happens to the envelopes then the main case is not of much good. I know... how expensive could cd envelopes be? I am sure they are cheap... but I have never seen any in my area to buy them... plus I would prefer to have black ones to match the rest of the set... which I am sure will be much harder to find.

But that really not the point I am making... was such a choice really necessary? I personally would rather have something much more standard.

What do you think?

- Like the setup?
- It is ridiculous?
- Something else?

That's pretty ugly.  Plus I hate cases that require me to remove a disc to access another.  It looks like this one would require you to remove all of them to access the one in the back!  And those envelopes will wear out pretty quick I'd bet.

This is one situation where I'd try to buy a replacement case and dump that piece of crap.

You are right... they do overlap. And yeah... the envelopes wearing out/ripping is a big concern.

I wonder how easy it would be to find an amaray case with place for 4 discs a little thicker then a standard case. I could just put this artwork in. It is maybe the thickness of 1 and a half standard (single movie) keep cases.

I guess it's a cheap case for a cheap set.

It would have been better if they would have used one of those keep cases with the hinged holders like other TV series comes in lately.

There are two cases that I hate.

One is for the Pearl Harbor: Director's Cut where the DVDs are held in a very tight paper envelope type thing. I had to put them in some spare keep cases I had around because I feared they would get scratched.

The other one I hate is The Simpsons: Eleventh Season where the dvds are kept in a paper accordion type thing and the discs are really tight as well.

I guess it is a cheap case for a cheap set... but how much could a standard amaray case that holds 4 discs actually cost? I would think designing something different would cost more.

you can buy 4 disc cases pretty cheap online. I used to see single qty listings but now it seems mostly bulk. this one for instance is 50 http://www.meritline.com/meritline-14mm-dvd-case-4-disc-blk---p-20399.aspx

you can get them the size of a standard dvd case too.

supermediastore.com also has them. between those two you might be able to find a link to buy just one. if not they are out there (could check ebay as well)

Thanks... will check out both sites. But I really would hate to have to buy in bulk/... especially 50 at a time... is something I would seldomly need and no extra room for the storage.  So hopefully I can find a listng for just one... or even between 5 and 10 I would consider... but not 50!

i didn't find anything under 50 on the two. they do have a 20 pack of a 10-disc case (and saw soem 12 disc cases)

how about a 5 pack http://www.amazon.com/QUAD-DISC-DVD-CASE-PACK/dp/B001KMWOGA

then offer the other 4 up for sale/trade for others that buy this

*edit* though these ones do store one disc behind another, but I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find one to your liking and maybe be lucky enough for a single pack

I just bought Wanted: Dead or Alive: The Complete Series at Best Buy for $21.99.  It came with 11 discs -- and was in a container similar to the one Pete shows -- with the discs in individual Tyvek sleeves.  I agree that I'd rather have a more substantial case, but I don't know of anything on the market that will handle 11 discs.

And, it was a pretty good price for the complete series -- less than the cost of one of the single season releases.  (Season 3 is OOP now anyway.)

they make them but again I can't seem to find any dvd cases being sold in single packs anymore
10 pack
20 pack

i prefer the 20 pack design personally.

they also have 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 on that site (and I think most of those on the other one i mentioned too) plus I found those other quad packs with a quick google search so you might be able to find smaller quantites. or use 3 quad cases, or two 6 cases

Thanks! I am not sure why Amazon didn't come to my mind. What do I search for (Size?) for the slightly thicker (maybe 1 and a half thickness of standard) cases?

that search was simply for "quadruple dvd case" but "quad dvd case" would probably give even more results.

I'd try maybe adding the thickness in if you want the thicker case (i tend to like the normal size ones that hold multiple discs but since your trying to use the artwork that came with the "Terrible DVD Case!" then the thicker would be needed)

I think you might have better luck with your size in millimeters as most thickness seem to be expressed like that for the cases i've seen but I'd probably try both.

and don't forget,, you still have to contribute the original case type for the main submission ..

Seasons two and three of the Adventures of Robin Hood have this same inexpensive packaging. But then again, any DVD without an insert I put into one of six 256 DVD binders, boxing up the cases into a storage shed...
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

that figures... I haven't bought seasons 2 on of Adventures of Robin Hood yet. I don't know if the packaging is any better... but I think I will just buy the complete series set to catch up. Would be cheaper anyway.

Unfortunately, I think these cases will be becoming more popular.  Right now I have 2.  Both were cheap ones...one of the from a 5 dollar bin.  The rest of the movies in there had the same packaging, so I'm assuming that they were the same.    I've also seen the same type of movies/dvds at Big Lots and Wal-Mart and I can only guess that they have the envelopes as well...!
