| Posted: | | | | Hi invleos,
I am not an overly active user here but I am trying to make my contributions to the community. However, even though I am thorough in indicating where I got the newly contributed information from (DVD purchase place, date, etc.) some of my contributions are declined for no obvious reason.
E.g., the newly release Blu-Ray DVD "Fighting" was not in the database. I contributed UPC, covers and such for the Canadian release. Afterward I made another contribution with the cast and crew members, indicating that I retrieved that information from IMDB (a trustable source one might say). The latter contribution was declined. Why?
When you decline a contribution, why don't you indicate in the comment field why it was declined?
Best regards, Sundance |

There are certain legal issues with culling information from IMDB without permission. Unless otherwise negotiated, IMDB is for personal use, not commercial use.
By your own admission, this is probably why it got declined. |

| Posted: | | | | You can't use imdb or any other source that aren't the film credit itself that you had on the dvd.
For the second question I think it's a reason of time (imagine the screeners sending a personnal message for all the decline contributions. They would have time for nothing else) |

They do provide occasional stock responses but i've yet to see a personalized one. See here for the Contribution Rules. From the introduction: Quote: The authoritative source for information submitted should be the DVD itself. Please don't submit content from a third party database, and always verify the specifications printed on the cover. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

Best regards, Sundance Sundance: First off read aned FOLLOW our Contributio9n Rules and you will not get declined. This mean you do NOT use IMDb, the most unreliable source I have ever seen, i must say. Invelos' Contributioons are not declining. The ONLY thing you need to dio is READ tyhe Rules and then FOLLOW the Rules. If you think IMDb is so reliable, then why are you using Profiler, you can tack 10,000 titles for FREE at IMDb, Now why do we not use IMDb, there are klegal issues if you bother to read their Terms of Use. On top of that one of the reassons for profiler's success is it's price. The4ir are other Dbs out there that are a lot more money and the pay to license the use of IMDb's data, you, the customer PAY for that. We do not license their data, the biggest single reason is that they are absolutely the worst and most inaccurate database in history. One more time to make sure you understand READ the Rules then FOLLOW the Rules. Skip Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

Why? From the contribution rules: Take Crew Credits from the film credits onlyFor any film with standard credits, take the actor information from the end credits onlyThe ONLY source for cast and crew data is the credits of the feature you are profiling. Use of IMDb is not allowed per Invelos rules nor IMDb's TOS. Quote: When you decline a contribution, why don't you indicate in the comment field why it was declined? In a case like this, where the data came from an invalid source, they usually do. It is possible, because of the number of contributions that they process, that they missed this one. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Something additional for you to think about, Sundance. IMDb exists, it does not need to re-created or cloned, we are Profiler and we do things differently and the Profiler way, if all Profiler was going to be was clone of IMDb then there would be no need for Profiler.

| Posted: | | | | The ideal place to get data for a contribution is the DVD itself. This is the place to start, provides the most accurate information and is the easiest to get.
But, that is not always possible - for example if the actor's role is not listed in the credits. In those situations a third party source such as IMBd. is required. The important thing to remember is that a single third party source is unacceptable. As long as multiple sources are used the contribution should be fine and be accepted.
Don't take it personal if your contributions receive no votes or if they do it declined. It happens to everyone. The goal is to make the database as accurate as possible and occasional mistakes need to be pointed out in order to reach that goal.
I would suggest you read the rules, ask questions as needed and keep contributing - the more you do it the easier it becomes! |

While I know the screeners are human, and can make mistakes, I am glad to hear they didn't in this case. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Hi all, thank you for your numerous replies. It all makes sense and I apologize for not thinking about it myself. Yeah, yeah, I should have read the contrib rules more carefully. I will do better in the future. Thanks again and best regards, Sundance | | | Last edited: by sundance |

| Posted: | | | | Hi all,
so ... I tried to do better.
I recently bought the Canadian release of Saw III, titled "Saw III - Uncut Edition". It was not in our online database here, neither by UPC nor by title. So I contributed the profile with the following description:
Bought on 27.Sep.2009 at Future Shop, Mississauga, CAN Information taken from original cover - Subtitle: "Uncut Edition" - location and UPC - cover scans - features
Lo and behold, the contribution was declined with this explanation:
An invalid source, such as a third party database, was listed in the contribution notes. Use of a third party database is not allowed per the contribution rules.
Ok, your turn. What was wrong this time?

| Posted: | | | | Uncut Edition is not a subtitle but rather the edition and should be entered in the correct field. Other than that I don't see a blatant fault. But, did you include cast+crew data? If so, you must have taken it from somewhere and you're not giving a source, which hints and the credits not being used as the source and thus, again, imdb. | | | - Jan |
