I order a lot of DVDs on Amazon, both from Amazon and from Marketplace sellers, and I'm starting to come to the conclusion that there may be something fishy going on in terms of what is labeled as "new".

In my experience, virtually all major release, retail packaging DVDs come "over sealed" with the neatly folded corners, versus the cheapie shrink wrap.

Does anyone recall a studio releasing a large run title shrink wrapped versus over sealed? It may have happened once, but I think it would be incredibly rare, and a pretty good tip off that what you're getting is not really new.

What immediately generated this inquiry was my receipt of "Field of Dreams" Two-Disc Anniversary Edition, UPC: 025192014024.

It was fulfilled directly by Amazon, and not only did it arrive shrink-wrapped, but it had NO case seals (not even the titled top one) under the shrink wrap.

I agree with you as I have had that same experience ,, but bottom line.. If the packaging is in mint condition, and the disc is as clean as you would expect, no marks or prints.. You were saved the agony of the three cornered security seals, which we all detest.

It may have been a returned item (opened) and had exchanged .
you may want to inspect for any disc freezing or menu item / authoring problems.

But bottom line it should be marked down in price..

Also with the 'recent' demise of a few high street stores with large online stocks, the high street often used to take the discs out and leave empty cases on shelves so all these would have been returned to warehouses for re-sealing and re-distribution and they'd actually never been sold and would have been in the same condition if you'd bought them in the shop.
