| Posted: | | | | Ok I guess Im a little confused right now, Im in the process of thinking to upgrade to a 7.1 setup and some people in other forums are telling me there is not very many titles in 7.1 so I look around and quite a few titles I own are displayed qith 7.1 speaker icons but yet I read reviews of these titles and the review says its only 5.1 so whats the deal? |

| Posted: | | | | The deal is quite simple, really. DVDP version 3.5.1 only "knows" Dolby and DTS HD formats, but not the number of channels involved. So it doesn't distinguish between 5.1 HD and 7.1 HD. Improvements are on the way in the 3.6 beta version.
For now, you'd better rely on the reviews. |

| Posted: | | | | WOW, so people trying to steer me away from a 7.1 setup are correct, there are not many 7.1 movies out yet, so what would be the point in a 7.1 setup as apposed to a 5.1? |

Well there are a few titles in 7.1... and there is Dolby Pro Logic IIx and Pro Logic IIz which by all reports (I only have 5.1 myself) do a pretty nifty job of converting 5.1 into 7.1. If I had a longer room I would definately give strong consideration to adding another couple speakers. | Posted: | | | | I see a bunch of current contributions trying to change mono to DD+ on some HD DVDs; it would really be a better idea to hold off on these until 3.6 is released and can handle DD+ mono; it's just going to have to be changed again so there's no point submitting these changes now. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

I agree. I've seen several changing from the correct format to "Other" because they only look at the graphical representation. |

I have only done this when doing a wider update, and there is no knowing when the beta will go final... | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 |
