| Posted: | | | | I have a question about some of the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine box set titles. As an example, I'll focus on Season One (UPC 097360-564587). The title in the online database is "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Complete First Season". Here is an image of the front of the box: Here is an image of the paper wrapper that was wrapped around the box in the retail packaging: And here is an image of the front of the box with the wrapper in place: Why should the title for this product not be "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Season 1"? --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | Scott: This, unfortunately is not worth the discussion. I would call it Season1 and LOCK IT DOWN. I would be astounded if a consensus will be reached. Isuspect that there will be those who will argue for the existing data. Or even argue to use Sason 1 as the Sort Title. I can also see someone presenting an argument that the existing data is consistent with the other Star Trek series, not that that has much relevance since each title stands on its own. But now that you have brought it up, I will watch with interest. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | It's not a wrapper. It's a (mostly) clear slipcase. I would say the title on there takes precedence. |

| Posted: | | | | Actually it's not that unusual that there are two different season indicators on the front cover (the german "ER" covers spring to mind).
My gut decision woul be: If it's a first contribution I get to decide which one I like better. If it's already contributed, I leave it as it is (and change it locally to my liking), since it's not wrong per se. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

It either should be "season 1", as the slipcover indicates, or "The Complete First Season on DVD" as the wrapper indicates. As it stands now, it doesn't match either one of these. --------------- |

Skip Well if you look at both Voyager and Enterprise, I would say that there is no consistency across the series at all. For example, Voyager Season 1 is on the cover as: Star Trek: Voyager: Season One (that's the actual slipcase, not the easily lost or damaged paper card), and Enterprise is Star Trek: Enterprise: Season 1. In all three cases (DS9, Voyager, Enterprise) the "Season x" descriptor is in closer physical proximity to the title than "The Complete Xth Season on DVD." Technically speaking, DS9 should be: Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Season 1: The Complete First Season on DVD. |

That makes some sense, but it seems too long and redundant to me. Must a title include all text on the cover? I personally wouldn't contribute that title, but I'd probably not vote "no" for such a contribution either. --------------- | | | Last edited: by scotthm |

| Posted: | | | | So the real question is, what constitutes the front cover? Is it the actual slipcase with the title and "Season X" embedded on it, is it the wraparound which approximates half an inch of visibility on the front, or a combination of the two? |

Even if you want the wrapper to count as part of the cover, must the text on it be considered part of the title? Why might it not be a "distinguishing factor", as discussed in the Rules? In this particular case, "The Complete First Season on DVD" does not strike me as part of the title. But, I'm not going to beat my head against the wall on this. I've made contributions and if they're declined (in whole or in part) then so be it. --------------- |

| Posted: | | | | And let's not forget the fact that for the first two seasons, the show was called simply "Enterprise" so it's been missing the Original Title value for some time now. |

--------------- Just to answer your question, yes, the text on it is considered part of the title per the rules: The title for a Box Set should be the title listed on the Front Cover; for example The Andy Griffith Show. Season indicators, if listed on the cover, should be entered as part of the title, not the description. e.g. Angel: The Complete First Season. While I don't particularly like it, "The Complete First Season on DVD" is a season indicator so, per the rules, is part of the title. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
