Many people of wealth and power see infidelity as their right, making them more sophisticated than standard morality would dictate. And a third opinion (expressed by the wife in "Shall We Dance?") is that the reason people marry is not as much for love or passion, but to gain a witness to our lives. That no matter what we do, if we do not have someone to share it with, perhaps no one will notice. To gain this, we become witnesses to our partner's life.
