| Posted: | | | | Would those credited for "Created for Television by" get a Created by credit?
Also does it matter if the series is based on a book/novel? In other words, if it's based on a book/novel then does those credited with "Created for Television" still get a Created by credit? |

| Posted: | | | | "Created for Television by" is a role name variant of "Created by" and should be allowed no matter if based on a book or not IMO. But strictly according to the rules name variants and functional equivalents are not allowed. Perhaps you could add it as a direct translation of "Created by". But IMO the rules should be changed to allow role name variants and functional equivalents. | | | Last edited: by RHo |

| Posted: | | | | Would you ask the same question if it said "Created for Movie Theaters by"? Or even "Created to make a profit by"? It does not matter what it was created for, it is still created by X. | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | For what it's worth, IMDB has this methodology attribution:
"Writer (created for television by)"
And in DVD Profiler, "Writer" is described as "(written directly for the screen)"
So I would think that "Writer" would fit best. But "Created by" also seems to fit. Perhaps this is something in need of an official ruling and addition to the contribution rules, just for clarity and uniformity across the database. |

'Created by', should be used in this case because that is what the credit reads. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. That only means that the credited is in the writing category, same as DVD Profiler. |
