| | Posted: | | | | OK...I just finished the construction of a DVD/CD cabinet that will house over 1000 DVD/CD's in their respective cases. Now I can get these damn things out of the plastic crates from under the bed and display/organize them properly. My question is, with all the many ways to do this, i.e. alphabetically/by genre/by collection #, so on...give me some feedback as to how it seems to work out best. I know that it is probably personal preference, however it seems that there should be some general concensus of the most efficient and manageable way to file the discs. With the number of discs involved, I don't want to do this over and over.

Since I don't add that many movies to my collection anymore the the re-org effort is acceptable once in a while. | | | Karsten

But your personnel preference influences the decision the most. |

| | Posted: | | | | I think its all a matter of what you like it to be.....if the collection is on display and you want it to be easy for a visitor to look through the shelves and find something alphabetical is probably easiest. But, there is a lot of work shifting things around to fit new movies in order. Some people prefer ease over how it looks in the shelf......Have fun sorting it out! |

I have all my TV series together. All movie boxsets (+ later movies of the series not included in the boxset) and special packaging are together. I have all blu-rays together. All the other movies are alphabetical. About once a month I shift movies to put in the latest purchases.

That's almost how I have mine. I used to split out my Blu-ray titles but when I had a few parts of a series on DVD and others on Blu I changed that. Everything is alphabetical except within a series where it's chronological. |

| | Posted: | | | | For me with almost 2400 cases, of which 200+ are BRD. The BRDs are at the end strictly alphabetical, until it gets to large. The DVDs are separated with dividers, of my design, by the usual genres with a few specialized genres of my own then alphabetical within each genre. Box sets are used to "bookend" each shelf (so the single discs don't fall off!), but are still alphabetical.
