Capturing Data. |

| Posted: | | | | I don't understand the the underlying idea of capturing the "look" of the data, within Profiler.
We do not have the tools to capture "the LOOK".
It started with the overview. I have a perfect source to see the overview as presented. I want to capture the data that is presented. Within Profiler, I could care less about the color of the font, or whether small caps is upper case, or whether there is drop caps at the beginning of the paragraph, or that a word is a different color. I want to read the overview from the rear cover.
then it goes to credits. We do not capture the actual look of the credits, we capture the data.
We do not have the tools or the means to capture how the credits look. Different fonts, all caps, all small letters. I don't see the credit of Director very often, it is "Directed by". A lot of times it is "Produced by" instead of "Producer".
Or here is another. In the opening credits it is formatted like;
Produced by John Smith & John Doe
We don't capture this look either. But it is the credit.
In the end, I want accurate data. Not only for the main Profiler Screen, but also for any of the sub screens, reports or plugins that are generated.
Sorry for the rant.

| Posted: | | | | I absolutely agree.
I want the data, and I want the data in the correct context. That's also why I'm against the use of group headers were there are no separate header. | | | The colour of her eyes, were the colour of insanity |

| Posted: | | | | Agreed! That's why I didn't fancy italic and bold in overviews. Most cast dividers (except for episodes and companies) are IMO not very helpful. And in the same spirit I want to enter crew roles by function and not by label.
I don't want to visually simulate the cover and the film credits. I want to store data into a database. For this the data has to be abstracted to fit a generalised database model. |

| Posted: | | | | I agree on most of it, but I have to say I like the Group Headers, cuz it stops us from enetrring tons of redundant data Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

You are picking at nits. But lets take one of your points the Overview. What else would you suggest for one thing. Yes we hava record of Overview etc, etc,. But at the same time Charlie you wren't here back in the day. we have a consistent Overview to keep the data from being change every week. Back then Tim would type his summary, then the next week Donnie would type HIS and he would think it was better than Tim's so he would submit it and we would get ANOTHER update. This would go on and on and on, why because we did not have a basis for the data, every user was allowed to do whatever he wanted, and both the database and the update process was a complete disaster. We lityerally had some titles that would change each and every week as users battled over which data or whose was the "correct" data.

Skip But I think you misunderstand. I want the data that is on the back of the cover. What ever it says. What I don't care about is bold/italic/all caps/ all small/ drop caps/color/hue/tint/shiny/dull/ etc etc. Just type in the overview, with proper capitalization and I would be most happy. That way we do not have to argue over "is a color change bold" Charlie |

| Posted: | | | | I agree, Charlie. This is a database, not image editing software. I do not care whether 2 names credited together are separated by an ampersand or not. | | | ...James
