Great films (or at least, favorite films) not on any "greatest" list

I know, I know... "Citizen Kane" is the most lauded film ever. I love it.

But I cannot watch it every day, any more than I could read an amazingly good book to the exclusion of others.

I imagine that we could name great movies, favorite movies, movies we can watch over and over and enjoy every time... which have never (or rarely) made any top 100/25/10 lists.

One film I watch repeatedly, and is on a few top 100 lists (but rarely any smaller ones) is "The Best Years of Our Lives." It just moves me in ways I like.

More obscure, less lauded is "O Lucky Man!" a Candide-like follow up to "if...." -- I am compelled by the multiple roles (types, if you will) many actors play in the film, and how Alan Price's songs, shown as his band records them in a studio, act as a Greek chorus to the action. And then, the band joins the plot... (not to mention the self-referencial ending).

I know many of you will list action & SF & special effects films (try to limit to a couple, not a top 10 list), but can we each name a film or two which affects you the way "O Lucky Man!" moves me?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

Cliff

I'm not trying to make this strict, just good lesser-lauded films -- stuff we like which is not necessarily in the "Citizen Kane" level of greatest films ever... like Casablanca, Searchers, and other all-time masterpieces. Have fun with this so I can see a few more cool films.

In my case, movies I watch repeatedly that aren't on those top lists (not very high, anyway...), include:

- The Talented Mr. Ripley
- Sunshine Boys (Matthau/Burns version)
- Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
- Green Mile
- The Firm
- The Good Shepherd

My absolute favorite doesn't qualify (King Kong, 1933) since it is on many greatest lists, but I have two other favorites from my youth that probably isn't:
The Five Pennies (with Danny Kaye, Barbara Bel Geddes and Louis Armstrong) and John Wayne's The Alamo.

Ju-on is a top 10 horror movie for me. I imagine it may be pretty big in its native Japan, but not so much here to the average person. (However, they probably heard of its American remake The Grudge.)

Heat is probably one of the best bank heist movies of all time.

My top one, too, but I don't think it fits to the topic - being IMDb #1 and all...
