There's an accepted BY for Joel Silver in the DB, but I'm not finding him in the approved BY year thread. Is this correct? If not, how do we get it out of the system?

I certainly don't know of any other Joel Silvers that would warrant a BY. As far as I know the only way to remove it is to submit a profile with it removed, if accepted the screeners should remove it from the list of accepted years.

Is there any way of tracing the BY to see where it came from? Whoever added it may have given a reason.

There is no way to get it out of the system.  You can remove it from individual profiles, but the name with the BY attached will still be there.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

Yeah, it's one of those birth years that keeps popping up, like the ones for Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, John Cleese and Jim Carrey. All erroneously accepted into the system, but not needed and therefore not allowed. There's no way to trace where they came from, and there's no universal way to get them out of the system - although someone could try raising a support ticket. You can remove them from individual profiles, of course.

Mind you: certain Harrison Ford profiles actually need that one (and all the others need the 1942 BY).
