I've stumbled upon another weird issue on a FUNimation disc, namely Heroic Age:

The credits read consistently on all episodes that the actor playing Kilis is called:
Yasumoto Hirotaka

That seemed weird to me. So I went ahead and looked it up and it turns out the actor's name is actually:
Yasumoto Hiroki
His personal website confirms everything: his Japanese written name, the romanization (Hiroki) and the fact he played Kilis in Heroic Age:
http://www.sigma7.co.jp/profile/m_48.html
The official series website also confirms this:
http://www.xebec-inc.co.jp/anime/heroicage/staff.html

As usual, FUNimation managed to completely mess up the credits. Question is, how do we enter such data? Just copy-paste blindly what's there or use something like a 'credited as' where you use the correct actor, and put a credited as for the erroneous name? Going by the rules, I'm inclined to think we're required to enter only the incorrect name. However, common sense tells me that's absurd. No matter from what angle I look at it, it just all seems so weird

Any ideas? Any precedents?

Unfortunately yes, and common sense did not win out. I had an issue with a British actor in the Hammer House of Horror where Crispin Gillbard is incorrectly credited as Chrispin Gillbard.
Unfortunately so far that's his only DVD credit and so I was roundly voted down when I tried to use "credited as" to show the spelling mistake.

So it sounds like your situation is very similar. It doesn't matter how big a balls-up the DVD credits are, we have to follow them.

Edit: this obviously only counts if the incorrect credits outnumber any correct credits.

If the actor has other credits in the database, use his real (common name) and the 'credited as' to show the wrong name that is in the credits.

edit: 'Yasumoto Hiroki' has two entries in the database, so 'common name'/'credited as' should work.

In this case we treat it just like we did with  Robin Williams in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. It that film he was credited as 'Ray D. Tutto'. Using common name we have linking. Using 'credited as' we keep what is shown in the credits.

The current CLT results are:

Yasumoto Hirotaka 0
Yasumoto Hiroki 1/2

Therefore -- at this moment -- you can contribute Yasumoto Hiroki [Yasumoto Hirotaka] using Credited As.

Of course, when your profile is accepted, Hirotaka will be 1/1.

I would go with this ^^^^.

I can remember some examples, like the Treehouse of Horrer episodes from The Simpsons.

pdf256, m.cellophane, thank you for your excellent suggestion. I didn't even stop to think that, given how Hirotaka is a wrongly romanized name, he doesn't appear in the online (yet). So, I'll do as you suggested and will quote the CLT results.

Unfortunately, yes. That's the downside. I hope FUNimation won't make any more blunders like this for his name

^^ This
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
