I've been using PowerDVD 4 for years and have used it to profile many DVDs. Now I got a (crippled--no Dolby) version of PowerDVD 8 with a new DVD drive, so I thought I'd play with it.

Looking at the disc for Tom Horn today, version 4 says regions 1 - 4 and version 8 says 1 - 6.

Has anyone seen or heard of this before.

I think that feature has failed in later versions. I have a newer HD powerdvd (can't find a number) and every disc I've checked has shown regions 1,2,3,4,5,6. Some I know for a fact are locked 1 only, others I know were 2 or 2/4 but everything comes up all regions now.

LOL  Another reason to stick with "old reliable."  Thanks.

(v.8 is easier to do screen shots, but how am I supposed to "evaluate" and possibly purchase DVD player software that won't play any Dolby sound?  I.e. almost every DVD.  LOL again)

I totally forgot I installed InfoTool over a year ago and barely used it.  (I put a shortcut somewhere handy now.)

InfoTool agrees with PowerDVD 4.

Yeah I was told by several people Infotool was good for region codes. That is why I installed it.

I always use AnyDVD and it works great. The Disc ID problem with AnyDVD in Profiler has been solved.

It circumvents region codes, copy protection systems and user prohibited action (like changing audio tracks in the movie with your remote) and yes it is illegal to use it in almost all countries (because you could make copies of the DVD / BR you own).

The program isn't illegal. It's indeed not allowed to copy DVDs for commercial purposes and/or sharing it. This program doesn't copy or rip DVDs. The removal of region codes isn't illegal.

In Germany it is forbidden to remove the copy protection of a DVD, BD, CD, ...
AnyDVD removes the copy protection, so the use of this program is forbidden in Germany.

Thanks for clearing that. That doesn't mean that the use of this program is forbidden in almost all countries. It's the opposite. In most countries the consumer has the right backing up his DVDs for personal use. So if you're not allowed to remove the copy protection how could you make a back up?
